Today he made 4 tackles and 6 interceptions, earlier on in the season those interceptions & tackles weren't being made and teams were going straight through us. Good mentality as well, always looks focussed and switched on, realises what his job is and doesn't get carried away.

I think he's been pretty consistent now. I'm not too worried about drop-offs in form, beyond the usual anyway. He has some limitations though - his passing range needs to improve, and his size limits him against players much bigger than him such as Fellaini. But overall if Arteta has another 15-20 appearances in his legs I'm fine with Coquelin/Arteta in DM. Both are solid and consistent players. Focus our summer resources elsewhere.

He completely dominated Fellaini at OT. :brow:

And his passing range is very good for a defensive player.

If Coquelin only had 4 tackles and 6 interceptions today I'll eat my shorts. From the game I saw, he was just shy of a hundred.

I still dispute that. I guess my definition of what an interception is, and a successful tackle is differs from theirs.

Me thinks AW still wants his DLP type like Arteta/Schneiderlin rather than a DM ball winner type like Coquelin/Flamini.
That said Coquelin is fast becoming indispensable and the challenge for AW is to be able to adapt his preferred midfield structure (B2B ball winner between 2 playmakers). IMO Cazorla has shown the way as a DLP from CM rather than DM, and a high D line brings the DM ball winner closer to the play.

Also i don't understand Ozil's finger celebration but i love Per's more natural looking one.

I wonder if a wilshere + Coquelin midfield pairing would work. It would be a big risk though to not buy a CM.....

They don't count those that he slides to intercept, which is actually is forte. He's brilliant at sliding first before the player even get that, using his body as an obstacle. Of course it's a risky maneuver in which players can read it and leave him for dead. So far it's working brilliantly though, his timing of tackles are superb and his passing is crisp and precise.

Good shout. Didn't even remember that he played for us in that game. He was our best player at WHL and OT prior to that though.

He disrupted the Liverpool possession in the lead up to Sanchez's goal. I doubt that it would show on a stat sheet but it was the reason we won the ball back.
