The last time we had anyone close to his defensive performance from midfield is Gilberto in UCL 05/06.

Covering so many defensive sins in our team. I picked st least 4 occassions where we would have been in deep shit had arteta or flamini been playing. And he has improved on the ball too, very composed in the deep positions

we should be looking for someone in their late 20s who can play the DM role and be happy playing 15-20 games a year. basically someone better than flamini. coq is the first name on the team sheet at this point.

We shouldn't be looking for anyone in their late 20s for any position. Thankfully, we won't be as stated by Wenger earlier this week. As I've said elsewhere, let's get an elite box-to-box mid who can play a role as DM (i.e. Pogba).

Maybe. Who do you think will get Pogba? As I see it, there are only 3 teams that are clearly at a higher plateau than us right now. Barca can't sign anyone, I doubt Bayern would be interested and Pogba's agent has spoken negatively about the idea of Pogba joining Madrid (link). It'll be difficult but I don't see it as a totally crazy suggestion.

About as well as Ramsey, I reckon. He's a box to box midfielder, and imo it's what we should be looking for this summer. I prefer Vidal of the two though. Vidal can play both positions for real.

I remember a few saying we switched to 3 in midfield to compensate for us being cheapskates in the transfer market and not buying a DM. I wonder if our recent switch back to our old formation is down to Columbo's emergence? i.e. we no longer feel the need to compensate or find 'creative solutions'.

If we signed Vidal (or Pogba), where would you play Ramsey? Wide? Move Ozil wide?

I'd play Coquelin, Ramsey and Vidal in midfield. I'm starting to come around to the idea of having Özil in a free role in the attack.

Or maybe I'd just bench Coquelin. It's not important. What's important is that Vidal is an absolute monster player, and Pogba would be so lucky to become as good within the next few years.
