Honestly, putting Bellerin on WOULD have been tactical. It was pretty clear from the start of the game that Montero was going to get by Chambers time and time again, and he did. And it cost us the game. Bellerin, as young as he is (all of 2.5 months younger than Chambers) is a natural RB and has a lot more speed & quickness than Chambers does. Surely we have to give this kid a run in the side since it seems clear that Chambers isnt ready to be a RB

It's not just about our right back vs. their left winger. Chambers struggled because he had a terrible match, but also because he was isolated one on one constantly with Montero who had a great game. A proper manager would have made some tactical changes to our set up to compensate for this. Pull Chamberlain further back or change to a flat three man central midfield which could give Chambers some support. Wenger just sat there twiddling his thumbs.

Players are recruited for a system. All of these players can play in some system somewhere, and well at that. We have genuine quality across the squad in most positions.

This is spot on. I don't have a huge amount of faith in Bellerin but when Chambers is getting over run you could at least try make the sub. Or at 1-0 up you can make a tactical tweak to help him out. Get Santi off and bring on Jack to move back to 4-5-1 for instance. Nope Wenger just sits and hopes to get away with. Same as it ever was.

Exactly, need a top striker, defence minded midfielder and a CB and we have done for over two seasons now (midfielder and striker anyway)

The anderlecht result made the team start nervously. Our strikers didn't touch the ball in the first half. This defensive personnel crisis wenger has created is affecting everything.

Very true. Defense and CM is where we don't have enough quality, and unfortunately you need it in every position to truly compete.

But even if we had Hummels and Schneiderlin playing for us today, do you think they would have changed the entire ethos of the way the team played? the tactics employed? the carelessness? I'm not convinced.

I think they would have, yes, but I don't think they would've been in the right positions to stop the goal that sunk us, nor do I think they could have directly contributed to us creating and scoring more chances. Yes, a solid platform for the attack causes it to function better, but the players have to form that solid platform on purpose, it can't just be a natural consequence of them being better players. That's where I don't think anything would really change.

No, not JUST about that, but that was a prime example of the problem. Something that was painfully obvious to everyone who watched the game (and i mean EVERYONE) except Wenger. I am decidedly not one to bash Wenger every time we dont win, but between this game & the Anderlecht game, im actually pissed off at the obvious problems not being addressed WITHIN the context of an individual game.
