Well we saw last season what having good defenders is like, so we don't have to guess.

Koscienly was MOTM in most of the matches he played this season, and has been a huge loss. Monreal is doing his best, but you can really see him just running aorund out there, hoping he doesn't get exposed. He doesn't do anything positive, he just tries not to do anything negative.

Nothing much more to add. Great way to start your week wasn't it? At least you can always count on Spurs to cheer you up a bit. We are so lucky to have Sanchez but we'll be even luckier if he's still here in a couple of years. Can't imagine he wants to spend his peak years scrapping for 4th and he's probably already starting to ask himself why he came. He'll probably be at Real Madrid in 2 seasons, if not sooner.

Re:- the averageness of this collection of players: we have a keeper with no agility, a defender who can't run, some other defenders who can't tackle, midfielders who can neither run or tackle and strikers who are better at passing than scoring goals.

Somewhere in amongst it, we have Sanchez who at least runs hard and scores goals even if he does hand over possession ten times a half.

The team is shit.

It really shouldn't but did make me laugh when Sanogo came on for Chambers and the commentator on our coverage said "substitution makes sense, they need to put as many goals on the field as possible at this stage." Fuck sake.

I already know there is little hope and then it is followed up with...

That team isn't serious and Wenger isn't serious either, because this is what he has given us. There is some attacking potential which one could argue isn't being nurtured correctly, but no tactics on this earth are going to prevent that team getting pummelled defensively.

Not sure I agree with that last point of yours, Capi.

United had a defence of Shaw, Blind, Valencia and McNair and kept a clean sheet on Saturday - no way in hell is that better than the 4 we put out today. Swansea are hardly world beaters and we already had a 1-0 lead. If we had a more tactically flexible/pro-active manager, we'd have sat deep to reduce the chances of Montero/that other chap getting free runs at our makeshift defence and brought on Theo to hit them on the break.

Had that been the case, you can be sure this wouldn't have happened:

It's not just the back five.

We've been getting shredded in the defensive phase of the game for most of the season with varying results. I don't think sitting deep is a viable gameplan for this team.

It worked, just about, because we had Sagna, Kos and for the most part Arteta available.
It certainly did not work anytime we played teams with top attacking talent.

Baffling that we no longer have any players in our defence with any fire in their bellies. I miss guys like Lauren, Keown, Sol, and Lehmann

But we didn't face a team with top attacking talent today. Bafetimbi fucking Gomis and some kid who's never even been on the bench before made the difference for them.

I'm not saying our defenders are brilliant, but we should not lose from being 1-0 up against Swansea.

Captain is spot on. I look at the team and have the same reaction. It's so average, it's unbelievable.

Szczesny, Flamini, Chambers, Gibbs, Monreal and Oxlade should be playing for mid-table clubs, either because they are average or too young/inconsistent to play for a top team. Then you have Mertesacker, Cazorla, Ramsey, Welbeck who can be very good when they want to be, but has rarely been the case this season.

None of the above guys bar Sanchez, and a form Ramsey are good enough for a title squad.

Wenger fucked up at stage 1, player recruitment. Everything is else bullshit and hot air. He made poor player development choices, and his record in the market hasn't been that good.

Can't sit deep if you constantly fail to win the ball in the air and you can't counter-attack without reliable passers of the ball. We basically have nothing with the state the team is in and will continue to throw up midtable results because that is their level.
