Yep, he gets caught out of position as often as Bellerin does. He doesn't have Bellerins pace to make up for it either.

I knew what Debuchy brought to the table from watching him at Newcastle but this kid has come from what seems like nowhere.
e: similar to when ashley cole replaced sylvinho, i keep worrying but he has continued to astound me.

I knew from youth games that he was rapid, excellent on the ball, and a real asset offensively. I had also noticed that he looked quite suspect defensively, and I had doubts over his physical strength. His rapid development on the defensive end has certainly surprised me, and I was surprised after preseason that he was even considered for the first team this season. The purchases of Debuchy and Chambo indicated otherwise to me.

I knew nothing about Bellerin prior to this season, but half an hour into Emirates cup it was obvious that he was starting material. His talent is that obvious.

I saw a few youth games two years ago, I think, and he stood out for the reasons I stated above. Made a point of watching the Youth Cup, the mini CL, last season mainly because of Bellerin.

For some reason I think our youth team played Barcelona last season? Makes little sense since they have the same fixtures as the senior teams. May have been in the latter rounds? That's when I saw that kid Barcelona has who everyone is raving about; he absolutely killed our guys.

I reckon you'd have to sacrifice Bellerin and draft in Debuchy if you want Walcott at his current level.

Debuchy isn't any more disciplined than Bellerin. I don't think Bellerin needs special covering any more than Gibbs or Monreal do on the left.

For me our forward line shouldn't be selected based on who is the best defensively anyway.

I was not suggesting it should, my main issue with Theo is that it takes him a good few games to regain any kind of decent level when he returns from injury.
Given that we only have five games left I don't see the point in making him a starter, plus he's never played ahead of Bellerin and I would see it as weakening our right side if the two were to start there together.
Less of an issue in the closing stage of games where their combined pace could wreak havoc on tiring defences.

I see it as weakening our right hand side to play Ramsey out of position there. He pulls into the middle and we lose our shape and ability to stretch defences.

Then we end up congested in midfield, with no width and Giroud isolated. It also requires our fullbacks to commit forward more to try and provide the width our "wingers" aren't.

The UEFA Youth League doesn't have the same fixtures as the senior teams as it's obviously not necessarily the same teams that make it out of the group stages. In the Barcelona match it was Traoré who tore our youth team apart but I guess you meant El Haddadi who was the clear stand out player in the tournament.

Would love him here, unreal talent.

Just not quite sure how I'd rearrange the players around that.

I'd play Coquelin, Arteta and Ramsey with Özil in a free attacking role probably. We need to rethink our formation next season, but at the moment it just seems easier to adjust Özil's position a little bit than to play Ramsey on the flank. I don't think it would make him less influential.

We've delegated more of our game to the flanks right now anyway thanks to Monreal and Bellerin, so what we really need from Ramsey is someone who passes and runs between the lines. Someone said in the other thread that Ramsey would have scored if he had gotten the chances Cazorla had against Chelsea, and I think there's truth in that. It's not a slight on Santi, but Ramsey really excels there.

I haven't even thought about that yet, I'm just wondering what would be best for the rest of this season.

That is exactly how I see things playing out regularly as well.

He stays advanced most of the time and starts his moves, whether they're dribbles or off the ball runs, from the wide area. It keeps the left back and the left side centre half on their toes, they can't just pull tight together and deny space for Giroud or the occasional Sanchez attack.

Anyway in regards to Ramsey, Cazorla and squeezing players in over the last few games I think its time for more rotation. I'd like to see Santi and Sanchez sit out at least one of the 4 non-United games before the end of the season. I'd like to see it with a lot of players really but mostly those 2 because they've been on a long run of games. With the cup final coming up we need to allow some players rest and get others up to speed before the final. As you say it'll take a few games for guys like Theo to hit form but what if someone goes down and we need him to start the final?

Don't think I've ever seen anyone who was as poor as Aaron was a few years back turn into such a decent player
