I choose to go by his own explanation that he's been lacking fitness, he does look a yard slower and that can have all sorts of side effects on other parts of his game, not least his confidence. He'll be back soon enough.

Yeah. You don't play as well as he did last season and dismiss it as a 'purple patch'. The goals were always going to dry up a bit, but his general play is what I am missing. I also don't think he was as bad as is being touted here against Man U.

Particularly, there was an instant when Gibbs made a run on the outside left into wide open space, where it would have been obviously the better decision for Ramsey to pass it off to create a better scoring opportunity, but the mustachio chose to go for glory and skied.

That was disgusting.

Ramsey had a great run of form but consistency is the key to being a top player. My only question against Ramsey was how he could respond to a dip after his great run and at the moment he hasn't risen to that challenge yet. He certainly looked a bit fitter Saturday but still someway to go.

I rarely think it is better to make a pass from a goal scoring position, where Ramsey was, out to the flank. Personally, I have no problems with Ramsey taking that shot, although I of course would have wished the shot itself was better.

I think we have too FEW players who take responsibility of finishing instead of passing. Ramsey never shies away, neither does Sanchez or Walcott. The rest of them are mostly content to pass the buck.

Rex, don't think you can say that is a goal scoring position.

Gibbs was through and we had plenty in the box for a tap in.

It's not only his goalscoring, his passing and simple awareness is way off since the start of the season.

Yes, there are certain moments and scenarios in the game where is perfectly fine, desirable even to show initiative or take responsibility. That wasn't one of them. Sometimes you just have to play the simplest and most sensible way.

There was a defender in place in front of ramsey. From that position, a pass to the wing further stretches out an already creaky defence and provides options for the cut back. You make that decision and a better percentage chance is created. I would criticize Cristiano Ronaldo himself if he took a shot from there.

Poor, poor decision making, no two ways about it for me.

Technically you are right but it's human nature to make split decisions based on all kinds of factors including bias (Gibb's history of bad crosses), surprise (outfox the keeper by not doing the obvious), desperation (lack of goals/selfishness/disprove the doubters), etc.

Applying Machiavelli's theory makes him wrong but if he had scored ...

He was good in the first half of last season as well, easily forgotten.

It's more like Feb-May but you get what I mean. No need to be pedantic. Without him we would have a good chance of missing one UCL.

I haven't, yet, seen any indication of that best form returning but, if i was in his position, i would feel i had to repay whatever support i had when i was struggling with loyalty when my form returns.

Yeah I agree with that. I saw flashes of last season's form in recent games, he just needs to hook up one or two stellar performances and I feel he'll be back to what we know he's capable of.

How can a player with an entire summer of break and pre season be off the pace. Their are World Cup player who haven't dipped in the slightest.

Ramsey isn't make the right decisions at the moment and he isn't doing anything with pace. That is not to say he won't get back to his previous level, just he isn't anywhere near that level at the moment.

There is no answer to that question as Ozil who played and won the World Cup in the summer is in the same position as Ramsey, form-wise.

Both of them have lost confidence and end up taking less of those risks that separate them from the chaff as the "dribbles per game" in Jazz's graphic, below, shows.

Without dribbling he and Ozil have looked like shadows of the players we all, (apart from one or two), know they actually are. They have taken opposite approaches to overcome this with Ramsey trying to force the issue and Ozil taking a backseat. So far none of them have got it back so we don't know which is right but no amount of abuse (not accusing you, btw!) will improve them and turning them round is the job of our coaches!

This is why Ox is exciting me lately, he's starting to take on a lot more responsibility.

Conversely its also one of my biggest gripes with Welbeck at the moment.

Yeah, I agree with you wholeheartedly on both Welbeck and Ox. Love the way Ox has played for the last month, despite not getting too many goals and assists. He takes responsibility!

I too have said as much about Welbeck as well on plenty of occasions. He needs to develop a selfish streak ffs! Drives me absolutely mad when he pussies out and takes the ball OUT of the penalty area instead of looking to finish. Because of that, I had no problems whatsoever with his backheel attempt the other day, and I loved his drive past McNair on the flank. His finishing is still too weak, but he has the physical attributes to somewhat compensate for that by attempting more shots. I think Alexis is the only one who easier can get himself into finishing positions, and he certainly has the balls to pull the trigger. THAT is what Welbeck needs to pick up!
