Kept a close eye on Verratti. Second time I've seen him properly (first being against England in the WC). A few dribbles where he eventually got tackled, some nice turns and simple passes, one good long ball, 2 dangerous free-kicks conceded, 1 dangerous free-kick won and very lucky not to be sent off for persistent fouling and one reckless challenge. I like because he's very silky on the ball. Wilshere gets heavily criticised for the same performance.

Pastore also looked very clever on the ball when he came on. Some very Arsenal players in that PSG line-up, hope we go nowhere near them.

Verratti needs to come out of semi-retirement and move to England or Spain. He is remarkable. I'd take Matuidi as well. Looking at these guys makes me shake my head at the £50m fee for David Luiz

Chelsea were not remotely organised, PSG had half a dozen great chances to score.

Zlatan won every single challenge against Cahill and Terry. Chelsea are in a lot of trouble.

how do you figure?   they got an away goal and drew the game and are at home in the second leg.  I dont see them dropping this.

Moron at 1-0 did his usual 'let's kill the game by boring them to death with our parked bus' routine, but I don't think it panned out quite like he had hoped. Normally Chelsea under Moron is comfortable playing deep, congesting the middle of the park, and pushing opponents wide. They can do that because they have always had a goalkeeper who is excellent at commanding his box, and they are very dominant in the air. PSG with Zlatan and Cavani tonight proved that they are more than a match for the Chelsea defense on crosses into the box. If it weren't for Courtois bailing them out on several occasions they would have lost.

Moron has a few things to think about for the return leg, and I think PSG are more than good enough to beat Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

I can see the 2nd leg being a 0-0 and PSG going out on away goals again.

Courtois is just incredible. Gonna be the best goalie for the next decade, but he will face immense competition from De Gea.

Neuer says hello...

Isn't Neuer a bit older than these generations of young keepers? Neuer is already up there.

hes 28.

thats like the start of the peak for a goalkeeper.

@[deleted] Yeah, but he's around. And he's better than them.

Courtois could end up just as good.
I think that Jose will play Oscar in the return leg and take the game to PSG. They seemed really inert with Ramires. Fabregas was disconnected and had to keep falling deep to get the ball, where he found things congested. The commentator claimed that Fabregas is happiest when playing deep, but I think he's at his most lethal when he's playing forward and able to link up closely with Costa and Hazard. But he needs supply, which wasn't forthcoming from Ramires and an Ivanovic pinned back by a phenomenal Cavanij.

I recall David Luiz making only two positive passes. Otherwise, he just seemed to send the ball back to Marquinhos ever time he got it. He was devoid of ideas for a guy charged with a central midfield role. Even when he was three quarters of the way up the pitch he tended to the negative pass, often foregoing opportunities to turn his man and drive, or send the ball out to an often free Lavezzi £50m? You're having a laugh.

Indeed. Fabregas hasn't been able to run a midfield since 2008. His entire game is geared towards the final third. He's out of place deeper in the field, and Jose realises it. Watching players like Verratti on the same pitch just reinforces that view.

Surprised that Lucas Silva is starting for Madrid in such a short time. Time to have a look at him to see what the fuss is all about.

Moved the posts discussing the vile Chelsea racist scumbag thug fans to the news thread.

Madrid / Schalke a little stale

that was a heaterrrrr

😆 I was thinking that too, he's amusing now that he's no longer wearing a Chelsea shirt.
I love the way he thought he could actually reposition the foam.
