If someone doesn't find Messi's vision and passing better than Ronaldo, I can't believe he has seen them both play. It's like an Özil/Welbeck comparison.

I'm taken back by how much Ronaldo is dismissed for his overall game when he has 15 assists this year (vs 18 for Messi) and had 9 (vs Messi's 11) last year (La Liga only).

That's why you look at the games and not just stats. Arshavin in his penultimate season here had 12 league assists, is he as good as Messi and Ronaldo last season?

Messi creates so many more chances and goals than Ronaldo it's unreal and most don't even show up as assists because of an easy cutback by Alba, Pedro etc. He's an even better playmaker than the likes of Özil and Cesc, what does that say about the difference between him and Ronaldo?

Vision and passing takes more than Just the passer though. Depends on the runs teammates make, and the team's set up. Messi possibly does not look so visionary outside of Barcelona's set up.

Ronaldo is more of a finisher than a playmaker, and he has done it in different leagues - in different teams.

And there's not much in it anyway.

Heh. Sorry. Reading that again I realize just how condescending that comes across. I respect your view, even if I don't share it or quite understand it. To me, Messi is a clear cut above Ronaldo in most aspects as a footballer.

I have no idea how accurate this is, but their stats since Ronaldo moved to Madrid look like this, excluding international games:
Ronaldo - 305 goals and 83 assists
Messi - 325 goals and 119 assists

Not only is Messi superior in the most telling stats, but IMO he is also a lot more accomplished in the areas that are not so easily quantifiable.

good video. But if you watch closely you see Messi's greatest and obvious weakness is his one footedness.

He almost always inevitably dribbles to his left.

A team can easily be set up to neutralize him.

Easily 😆 Do you not think defenders know that Robben always goes left too? Problem is, Messi will just go the other way if he needs to. The only way to stop Messi is setting up like a relegation team, only with better players (Chelsea style), and most big clubs thankfully do not accept playing like that.

Oh, and in January Messi had still scored more right-footed goals than left this season. He's pretty ambidextrous.

Fat Sam and Tony P could probably device some dark arts to do the same.

Seriously though, I would love to see Messi play for another team, in another league and see how effective he will be, especially a league which gives a shit about defending, and players are actually allowed to throw in strong tackles.
