I think Ryo looks amazing myself. Reminds me so much of Ronaldo at his age!
Eden Hazard
Seen nothing from Ryo to suggest that he's much different from the plethora of talented, exciting young players we've had over the years, with a lot of potential but a whole lot to do before he could be considered a top performer at a top side. He's no Wilshere, from what I've seen - just another young tyro with a shot.
His physical attributes, his work ethic and his technical level makes him extremely interesting to me. He excites me more than any other young player at the club tbh, and I can genuinely see him turning into a superstar.
Fair enough.
Not saying I think he looks poor - just that he clearly has work and development to do, and that's something that too often is taken for granted.

He isn't that good. Lucas da Silva is a superstar talent, Ryo isnt. I wouldnt put Ryo ahead of Oxlade in terms of talent either.
Your opinion, and I respect it.
What Separates Ryo from other similarly talented players is his speed and ability to run with the ball at that speed. It's a frightening ability that he has. Needs to work hard on the other areas of his game and bring them up to scratch, but by all accounts, that's pretty much a given. Everyone who has worked with him has said he's about as hard-working as a footballer gets, so he can't really fail to be come a very good player.
I saw your boy, Lucas, play for Brazil against Scotland, YG. And whilst he stood out instantly; his insane acceleration and speed over short distances especially, it remains to be seen whether he has the right attitude and work rate to become a 'superstar'. It's impossible to overstate what a massive part of being a top player that is.
Ryo also has excellent close control and quite a few tricks in his bag already Rickster.
Decent close control, I'd say. But that's not the part of his game I was talking about.

Exactly. Extremely overhyped on this forum. I've seen almost all his games for Feyenoord and I'd be surprised if he became a first team regular here.
I've seen nearly all the games, too (so have a few on here, to be fair), and as I said above, he have some outstanding attributes that give a chance of becoming something special, but a lot of the other parts of his game need tightening up and bringing up a few levels.
The dutch league is poor these days
A chelsea reject called stoch went there and got 10 goals from the wing which is outstanding
Another city player called john guidetti who's probably never played a senior game for them has scored a lot this season also
Ryo will beat players for fun, theres no doubt about that. I'm yet to get a good indication of how his final ball is.

it's typical fanboy-ism. people don't realise how many similar players there are around the world. portsmouth might have an identical player at the same age, but their guy would be whatever, while our guy would be the next cronaldo.
it's embarrassing.
Rex isn't just some fan boy, would have thought you'd have picked up on that by now.
I agree with you to an extent about Ryo, as I said above, he has a lot to work on, in my opinion, but I'll tell you one thing; I bet there aren't any other players at the age Ryo's at, at Portsmouth or anywhere, that can run with the ball with the speed and control he can.
There's no need to go so far the other way, he's a very, very good prospect.
Too much of that sunshine for you again, Rick, haha!

and there are undoubtedly players his age with far better ball control, awareness, combination play, ball striking ability, etc. there are dozens upon dozens of players with similar or better potential at his age and position. i suppose you're right that they are all very good prospects, but it's silly to call them all world beaters in the making, especially when a guy like miyaichi has an equally good chance of being the next jerome thomas as he does cronaldo.
Why not just let the jury stay out on him for now? The real curse isn't fanboyism, it's the rush to judgement on a kid who's 19 and hasn't done a thing for us yet.
Speaking of Ronaldo when he was that age, everyone thought he was a lightweight rubber-legged stepover show pony. The mad determination to score, and the obsession with peak performance came slightly later.
I dont think there's any of us is in a place to accurately predict how far Miyaichi can go at this stage.
What I will say is that anyone with his sort of incredible pace and proficient technical ability has a good shot.
we're agreeing then. all i'm saying is that he's one of many, many similarly good prospects his age in the world. i don't think i'm wrong. i do think it's wrong to call him a probable worldbeater. it's a question of numbers; those many, many players can't all be worldbeaters.
lets stop the hype and hyperbole. a lot of fans these days have a fetish for prospects and don't/can't see the bigger picture.
