We can get Hazard if we're willing to pay more than Wenger has ever paid for a player.

Being linked to Madrid is a good way for all parties involved in his sale to drive up the asking price.
I've also read recently that both Chelsea and Inter are in the hunt too, as well as long time interested Liverpool.
Expect even more hype plus a link with City between now and next summer.

Neymar's just signed a contract extension that will keep him at Santos until 2014.
Looks as if Madrid will not sign him next summer and are therefore right back in the market for Hazard.

It's not a new contract, it's an extension to an existing contract, and yes that does not mean he's truly committing himself to Santos until 2014 but it could be seen as an indication that he'll stay for there for another season.

Or maybe it's just a way of ensuring that he'll cost a fortune next summer.

Neymar is always going on about the lack of need to leave Brazil and his club are laughing all the way to the bank with him there; he's quite literally the biggest Brazilian star since Ronaldo now.
