Reminds me a little of Sagna as a rightback. I like that. If he wasn't our only CB cover I would play him ahead of Debuchy too.

I think I prefer him at centre back. He seems a bit slow to be a fullback here. I also don't like the idea of playing all three of our centre backs at the same time. Maybe in big games, but I'd rather risk Bellerin against the smaller teams.

I see what you guys mean, I understand that sense of - "he's a CB, let him focus on that; and let us have a clear CB hierarchy and depth". But then - we rely on another FB as cover for CB anyway. And we do play him at RB sometimes. What would we be losing if he played at RB, if indeed we consider him to be the first choice there, and then play him as a CB (and introduce his back up, Debuchy or even Bellerin) if something happens toper/Kos. We'd be losing -
Fatigue factor; added injury risk. O stuff like that.
But that seems to me a bit confused:

you'd be intentionally choosing lesser players to play for the idea of what might be, and
you can always change for added considerations.
But that is different from declaring your first 11 is such that it doesn't really introduce the first 11.

Again - the conclusion is not necessary, but the reason, the consideration in favor of playing him is certainly there.

Excellent signing. Have no idea what Wenger was doing today though! Dude is on a yellow and the ref has a serious talk with him at the 60 minute mark in a game which is already won. What does Wenger do? Lets him play the whole 90...

Coquelin would have been fine for half an hour at 3-0 up. Wenger took a small gamble and it paid off. Chambers needed a full game at rightback if that's where he's going to play for the next few months.

Debuchy's injury is a blessing as i don't think he will ever be better than Sagna as he is already 29 yrs old but Chambers could, as he is a bigger, taller, has pace, agility, heading ability and most importantly thinks defence first.

What an idiotic statement to make. We barely have any defenders in our team and you think it is a blessing that one of our player is injured. He had a OK game against Aston Villa, he should have been sent of, only reason he wasn't sent of is because he's young & English.

Debuchy has been an excellent replacement for Bac. He's has been good in all the games he has played in.

We shouldn't be left without a single defender on the bench, this much is obviously true.
I don't actually know how coq is at this time - been a while since I saw him play (or was even sure if he's our player, TBH). But he did fill in at RB several times (about 2 years ago?), and he did pretty well there. I actually thought back then that it might not be a bad idea to pull him in that direction - thought he'd have more of a chance playing for us if he did.
Anyway - we're short at the back, we are going to see some funny things happening there - we will not be able to avoid that, I'm afraid. Somehow the idea of Coq at RB and a normal defense otherwise looks less troubling than Monreal at CB. Not sure if to put Bellerin in the "funny cuts" cast as well :hmm:

i like him as a right back because he's comfortable on the ball and can pass like a midfielder. those are two areas i feel sagna was a bit weak

i really like his game, all he needs is experience. i just hope wenger doesn't mess him up.

Chambers is our best defender in terms of technically ability with the ball.

Still think Jenkinson should have been kept as well as Chambers.

So do I but when Wenger let Jenkinson go Chambers was just a RB, then he decided he was a CB so he didn't sign a Vermaelen replacement. Whole thing is a big mess.

As well as he's playing it feels uncomfortable having all our CBs in the lineup with no cover.

It certainly does, but surely we need to think about the first XI first, and we can worry about cover when someone goes down.

Right now Kos, Mert and Chambers are the ones who are going to win us matches, benching one of them for when one of the other two gets injured isn't going to solve anything.

I think Bellerin should play as much s possible personally.
