We've already covered this in a different thread, I have no issue with Bellerin getting games but I think he needs a series of matches against weaker opposition before we toss him in the deep end—again. I can't see how throwing him into the NLD helps us for example.

He should be eased in, but this is the hand that Wenger has dealt us.

We're in the same position vis-a-vis right back as last season, it's just Debuchy's gotten himself injured.

So that's Chambers, Bellerin, Per, Kos Monreal and Gibbs to cover the defence through the winter months.

Burnsy: Our options were poor last year too. At least Bellerin has potential.

Wenger will probably keep on playing Chambers. I think it's senseless, but each to their own.

I'm not saying it's a good situation mind, just that it's the same one we were in last season.

It is a major concern that the only three players we've got who are any use at CB are going to be playing nearly every match, but as I said above, we do actually have to win these matches, it's not just about keeping the players safe and covered.

It's not the same though, is it. We had Vermaelen on the bench last year when Bac was in the starting eleven. We have no one on the bench now thanks to Debuchy's injury.

I think we're every bit as likely to win games with Bellerin as a rightback as we are with Chambers out there.

And Bac was our 4th CB as well (very different from Monreal).
I agree with BW about easing him in - it's not the same playing him in the NLD or chelsea. In those games we do not
have the same chance of winning the game with Chambers or Bellerin.

Why not? At the end of the day they are two teens with basically zero first team experience. Chambers has a few more sub appearances.

Chambers seems better defensively, but I think Bellerin should play against the bottom 11-12 teams while Debuchy is injured.

True, I even mentioned they are almost exactly the same age. It is very clear, though, that Chambers plays like he's been playing forever and he's made of special stuff. I am much more comfortable with him in general, and when the defensive side is the emphasis - doubly so. He'll make a mistake here or there, but he's not likely to cause heart attacks. Not sure if I could say this for Bellerin vs, say - chelsea.
When we're playing the smaller teams (and all is well at the back otherwise), I guess there's no real difference (possibly even advantage Bellerin - he's still special going forward).

I think Chambers should and will play as our RB until Debuchy's back or one of Mertesacker and Koscielny get injured. Monreal out for the next few weeks really gives us no options. Ideally tomorrow we'd be resting the 11 that will start the Tottenham game but I think 3 out of the back 4 that will start on the weeknd will have to play tomorrow too. Unless Wenger tries a reserve player.

I like Chambers away from that CB position. Just think his all action style suits a position where you need to cover more ground. Looks quite awkward on the ball but he has quick feet and plays some good sharp passes. Would love to see him at defensive midfield but we're just too short in defence to try that out.

Agree, Patters. Don't know what the man is going to do now with Moreal out as well. think we're about to see some free agent parachuted from some forgotten part of the world.

Chambers has a lot more Premiership experience than Bellerin.

Chambers have championship experience too.

I agree that we should try to put in Bellerin as much as possible, especially in carling cup matches and home games against weaker opposition. Can't hurt us defensively much, and he will add on a good deal of attacking impetus. The earlier he gets ready the better.

I agree with Klaus here. To me, Bellerin looks a top talent, and I was generally impressed with his defending in the Emirates Cup and away at Dortmund. We lose a bit of height and are likely to be a bit more vulnerable on high balls into the box, but that's it.

I think Chambers looks a top talent as well, but I think a lot of people are too excited about him at the moment; to the best of my recollection he has had on average one howler per game so far. I don't expect Bellerin to be perfect, but I don't expect him to be worse either.

Ideally IMO, we'd use Chambers in the odd game to give Koscielny or Mertesacker a rest. I think it is a really, really dangerous strategy to play those two as much as we did last season and think they will cope for a second straight season without breaking down. Even more so after both of them being involved in the WC.

Bellerin looks very comfortable on the ball but he's miles behind Chambers at the moment from what I've seen. Defensive positioning and decision making look like he's a 19 year with little or no experience. Chambers on the other hand plays like he's 22 with about 50 top flight games.

Yeah, that's how I see it as well.

I also think there's a minor difference between the two, but Chambers is every bit as rough around the edges. He makes at least one high-profile error per game. I'm not willing to gamble on our season right now by playing all our three centrebacks at the same time. We're not going to lose any games because we play Bellerin instead of Chambers.

Chambers is a world ahead of bellerin as a player. Even with his Kos-esque dives and errors each game he makes a serious impact as a defender and is our best defender on the ball.
