That was desperately rough on Chile, prefer them as a team to Brazil but I really do admire the nerve of Luiz, Cesar and Neymar during that shootout.
Last 16: Brazil vs Chile, Saturday 28th June
Neymar must have felt all the weight. Insane taking that penalty.
Thought Chile could have probably attacked a little more in extra time, they had the beating of Brazil, so hard with that shot off the cross bar in the 120th minute.
Luiz looks top notch for Brazil but a clown for his clubs
How shit is Scolari though ? He sent on Willian and Ramires ,both programmed by Mourinho and offering nothing offensive at all. Yet he left Bernard and Hernanes on the bench and did not even pick Lucas Moura or even Ronaldinho
I hate shoot outs....
I love them, especially when they don't involve us.
Brazil still look dodgy they were very lucky this time.....

I've been amazed by how well Neymar has dealt with the pressure on him throughout the tournament. He looks like he enjoys it and is better because of it when many others would crumble. A pleasure to see.
Feel bad for Chile. Really wanted them to go through. But I think it's better for the tournament that Brazil stay in, we need a villain and the atmosphere was toxic for the Chile players; provides an extra obstacle for the contenders.
Chile have an absolute gold mine of talent. Well done.

I like luck.
Remember the GG days?
Massive kick in the teeth if Argentina beat Brazil

He's the real deal.
Shame he is so stifled at Barca
Gutted for Chile, they deserved to win this.

They were excellent, but Brazil had all the chances. Hulk's goal should have stood too.
Clrnc wrote:Gutted for Chile, they deserved to win this.
Nah, Brazil had a perfectly good goal ruled out. Chile are a good side but they didn't 'deserve' to win anything. They deserved better than going out in this fashion though. Would have been better to just leave it at 2-1 in regular time.

Ah well same fate as England

England deserved fuck all.

So do chile
Basically winners get credit rest are shit
I don't think Chile deserved it any more than Brazil did. I believe they would have won had they shown a little less caution.
Also, Neymar is incredible, the most 'entertaining' footballer currently and his contribution to Brazil at his age is quite extraordinary but I don't think he is as good as what Messi was at the same age.
Eh, I thought Brazil deserved to win really.

His winning penalty and his ability to deal with the massive pressure of it being the one to keep Brazil in the World Cup was extraordinary.
He was anonymous for large spells of the game and there were two particular instances when he broke from midfield and looked to be through on goal and each time he blew it.
To be considered extraordinary he'll have to start taking those kind of chances.

Of course, we all know that what you deserve is neither here nor there in football, you get what you get.
I absolutely love watching Neymar play football. They don't make them like that anymore. His relative inexperience in certain situations was shining through a few times though. There was a moment right at the end of the game; I think the clock showed 122 minutes. Pinilla hit the bar and Brazil countered through Neymar who ran almost the length of the field. He ended up passing to Hulk on his right side and Brazil grabbed one last corner. If he had passed to his left instead Willian would have been clean one on one with the goalkeeper.
It really irked me that he had no idea there was another player coming up behind him. It would have been the crowning moment of the game and something that would have more or less guaranteed him player of the tournament.
That being said, he's the standout player in the tournament so far. That penalty was just awesome.

Yeah, I agree. I don't know why I just felt an urge to compare him to Messi who at a similar age (actually at 21) was dominating a Champions League final against United and scoring with his head. It was just moments like the one you described and the ones Y va is referring to, which just show he has that little bit more to do.
He is a joy to watch though.

I thought he was lucky with his peno.
I'm not a great fan of a stuttered run up, it suggests indecision.....

I think a fairer comparison might be Ronaldinho at the same age. Talent is on a corresponding level but Neymar is streets ahead so far. It remains to be seen if he can match Dinho's growth spurt though.

Not sure how much the bulking up has improved him as he has lost some of the blistering speed and agility he had 3 years ago.
It's great to see the return of genuine flair players.
Neymar and Sanchez need to get out of Messi's shadow. They're much more amazing when asked to be the focal points of offense. They cherish the responsibility and carry their teams.
i thought neymar looked very overrated today, but maybe i'm being harsh. brazil's strikers are a joke, though. hard to believe fred and jo are their options.
Feel sorry for Chile, would have loved them to go through. What an epic game it was. Not really watched much of Sanchez before this tournament but completely sold on him now. Shame he missed his penalty.
how do you look overrated?
Fair play to Hulk, he was immense. I don't really watch club football outside of Arsenal and CL but every time I'd seen him I've thought he was absolutely pony. Best player on the pitch and really surprised me in this match.

he was really gee'd up for this match. Really tried to take it by the scruff of the neck.
He has been terrible in a lot of club football tho, and this match also showed some of why that's so- he seems to play with blinkers.

He was injured.
