But only Khedira is better than Tet of that lot. Maybe we should start offloading players from the other end instead.

For me, buying a DM is just as important as any signing we make in attack. Our failure last season came down to poor performances in the big games and we need to alter our midfield in order to perform better next season.

In my opinion, we should be looking to use Ozil in a similar way that he has played for Germany in a wider role, and play Arteta, Ramsey and a more defensive player in midfield. Although it would mean a change in our shape, it would make us much stronger in defensive, whilst still enabling Ramsey and Ozil their freedom to play. Ozil playing in AM in big games puts far too much pressure on us, especially with Ramsey playing box to box and our problems won't simply be solved by signing a new midfielder. Our issues our down to tactics more than personnel.

As for Khedira, he was the best player on the pitch last night and would be perfect for us. Wenger won't go and sign a one dimensional midfield destroyer and Khedira could play a variety of roles in there. He and Ramsey would be great together.

If we were to get Khedira and go back to 4-3-3 I would rather see Ramsey, Khedira and Wilshere than Ramsey, Khedira and Arteta.

We need Khedira.

Reports in Spain today say that we have bid £24m.

Fantastic player. I'd be delighted if we got him, it'd be £24m well spent.

No way we'd open with that offer, he has one year left on his contract and he's way out of their first team at the moment. Also rumors about €10m/yr wages do not make sense, that's Alexis/Özil/Ramsey level. I think Wenger might consider Khedira if he got a bargain, but he really doesn't need to bang down doors and spend big money to find a positional midfielder.

He would add energy and hustle to our midfield and make Mesut happy!

£24m and about £150k/week is the rumor. That's silly money. He's a very good player, but I don't think we'll see old Arsene making that kind of offer.

Yeah right we sign him for £24m. No way in hell

Sign Khedira this summer in order to help us resign Ozil next summer.

Think Wenger would give him 90-110k p/week and give Madrid 17m? Think it could be done.

Yes, but still a lot of money considering that he could pay Schneiderlin £60k (just a guess). Over the course of a five-year contract that's about a £10m difference, and it also keeps our wage structure in better shape. Think it's Schneiderlin or bust for a CM myself.

Yea but Khedira is challenging for top honours, Schneiderlin at this point is hoping he can really make the step up.

so double his wages and pay real madrid 24m for a player with one year left on his contract? 24m is what he's worth with 3 years left on his contract. where is the soon to be out of contract discount? spend big on ozil and sanchez and now they think we're stupid. one extreme to the next.

Few posts up meaty, I wasn't suggesting that.

He really looks like he will though. Our rumored interest in January suggests that Wenger believes the same.

I'm not against Khedira necessarily (although I think an SK-Ramsey pairing with Wenger's high fullbacks is asking for trouble), I just wouldn't listen to rumors until there's that critical mass of conversation that suggests real interest at the very least. It doesn't seem plausible to me, thinking from Wenger's perspective.

my post wasn't directed at you, just at the rumored wages and opening bid.

didn't realise he had 1 year on his deal left. add in that he's coming off a major injury, and these rumoured prices seem fugazi.
