Ramsey is not dependent on Özil creating space for him though. It's not like Lampard needed somebody dragging defenders wide to make the runs he did - you surge forward off of combination play. He is also an incredibly rounded player. I think there's a lot to be said for that Özil-Ramsey combination, but I don't think that we have the cutting edge in the team in general to reap all the advantages of such an extremely fluid offensive set-up.
I think a bit more rigidity, by contrast, would help us control difficult games a bit better and make us more solid off the ball. Every time we lose possession in midfield against good teams it's a complete catastrophe. We are also scarily weak on set pieces atm and could use Khedira over an AM like Cazorla on that front.
In the end though this won't happen and 4-2-3-1 is still great for us in a lot of ways, especially if we can get stronger performances from our wide players this season.
