Yep I'm pretty convinced that Wenger is keen to test a Wilshere/Ramsey partnership. If that's his thinking then I can see him being content with Ken, Flams, Diaby and even Chambers as back ups. At some stage soon we'll probably hear him say something like "don't forget we also have Rosicky and Chamberlain who can play there too". Classic Weng.

I would hate that as i think a Wilshere/Ramsey partnership is too slow and weak for CM.

Wenger is probably telling the truth but who knows, maybe he wanted him but the wages were too high especially for someone who wasn't a perfect fit.

I still think he would have been a good signing. Even if he didn't suit Ramsey, a 4-3-3 would definitely have worked. We might need to play that formation a lot more this season, especially if we don't get that DM.

he's covering all bases. he has to make the right noises to the squad he has. nothing wrong publically putting faith in the likes of wilshere and chambers. however it still sounds like we're in for at least 1 more player, plus the verm replacement. like wenger said, the last 2 weeks of the window are when the hold-outs start to drop their skirts, so to speak.

Yeah Wenger will skimp where he can.
In the past I've suggested he try Vernaelen in the position, wonder why he hasn't.

He was asked a number of times about Khedira and he never denied nor confirmed the rumors. Why deny them now? Seems fishy to me. Something happened in the last week, whether with Khedira or some other target.

Best case scenario is that Chambers impressed. Worst case scenario we tried to get someone in, couldn't get it done so now we're settling for Arteta/Flam.

Surely no one uses "Vermaelen as DM" anymore unless its a parody.

This was a couple of years ago when he was an okay defender a tiger in the tackle and loved to go forward, but we knew he couldn't work with Kos.

Hope this is put to bed now and we are looking at different targets. Wengers right, Ramsey/Khedira midfield would obviously have been too attacking.

Fine in theory, not so good when we end up with Ramsey/Wilshere as our midfield.

Doubt it qs, I'd be more worried that he thinks Chambers is ready for that role as he has hinted at it. Massive risk.

In a way, I'm just happy he acknowledge this team needs a holding midfield. Wengers teams don't work without one..
