I'd be well disappointed if we end up with Schneiderlin over Khedira.
I'd probably get over it within a few days though.

Schneiderlin is underrated, better than Khedira and is only going to get better in the future. Khedira is overrated, worse than Schneiderlin and is only going to get worse. While it is hardly proof than I'm right in this manner, if this was summer 2010 and I proposed selling Arshavin to fund a purchase of Hazard (which I wanted the club to do), then I suspect that the responses here would be similar to the responses on this issue.

Regardless of what happens, hopefully everything works out well for Arsenal. I suspect this has a good chance of ending in a big payday at Madrid for Khedira anyway.

You make a lot of sense. That's also my view of the situation as well.

Yes the bit about Newcastles defence being as good as ours was truly a low point.

While appreciating the theory that it's worth going for the younger player out of two solid options, I can't hack this (Arshavin:Hazard) = (Khedira:Schneiderlin) analogy.

Arshavin was an arrogant dilettante a full ten years older than Hazard. I was already questioning his attitude by summer 2009, let alone 2010.

Khedira's 27, works hard, has plenty of friends in our squad, is accustomed to not being the main star etc. There's no reason he shouldn't be peaking for the duration of the four year contract under discussion.

I suspect if Schneiderlin were available for a £20m fee we'd be in for him, but Southampton are gougers.

The thing about the analogy is that Arshavin was still better than Hazard in 2010. So while right now it seems to make a lot of sense it didn't then and it assumes we wouldn't have lost Hazard like we did with Nasri, Cesc, etc

The Kheidra and Schneiderlin thing is completely different because they are both established. That said I think they're about evenly matched as targets when all things are considered. I'd be very happy with either.

I'd be happy with either but am leaning to Khedira as he offers physicality - something no one else in our squad does to the same degree. While Schneiderlin looks a great player his strengths are more aligned with those that our current players already possess.

If they're evenly matched Schneiderlin would be the better target.

Veysey says Khedira wants €200 000 a week. He'll never get something like that, if true.

i'm with you. gibbs is overrated, chesney is no better than krul, and debuchy played for newcastle, so... take the arsenal-tinted glasses off, and you are right.

anyone have any idea what khedira is on atm? i'd imagine no more than 100k.

He should give United, Barca and Bayern a call. Going forward, they'll be the only teams that can pay that wage. We should offer him £130-140k

Probably a lot less than that. He signed for Real Madrid after the World Cup 2010 and hasn't extended his contract since. Given his position and the inflation of player wages it's highly unlikely that he's getting anything even close to the top earners over there, or indeed what they were earning around the time he signed.

I don't think the issue is about money for him anyway. I think it's about a change of environment. Madrid can be a toxic place.

Think his salary is closer to 50k than 100.

i guess his agent knows this may be his last chance at a big contract, so he wants to extract every possible cent. khedira himself may feel a bit resentful at being underpaid the last few years.

for 100k, we'd def do this, right?

i would say let's look into Vidal at £32m, but i remember what happened when we had a good striker in-hand last year and decided to drop that chase for a better striker. let's get this Khedira deal signed and sealed sharpish

his demands are not in line with what the majority of teams can pay. only United and possibly Chelsea can conceivably afford that. he's not going to Barca, Bayern or City. so we should outpay Chelsea if need be, but I am not worried about having to go nuts at 200k

Still think the same. Khedira is using us for better contract or flush out some interest. I guess we are willingly playing ball(clubs do that all the time).

Maybe a late window Ramires-Khedira swap? Though he may just as well stay at RM.
