Former England and Spurs star Paul Gascoigne says Arsenal and their manager Arsene Wenger supported the 47-year-old.
Gascoigne received £50,000 from the North London club for hospital treatment.The former midfielder was sectioned under the Mental Health Act in October, but says he is doing better now.

"I rang up (Arsenal) physio Gary Lewin and told him I wasn't feeling great," Gascoigne told the Sun.
"He said to go to hospital as he feared it was pneumonia. Wenger then agreed to arrange £28,000 to pay for treatment. Arsenal also paid £22,000 when I had hip treatment."

I want to think it is just the sort of thing which makes me love Arsenal. The human side of Wenger is also something I admire. It seems to become rarer and rarer in football.

It sounds like he's friends with Lewin and that's why we did it. That's fine with me. At least Gazza will get some mileage out of that new hip. We've switched half of Diaby's body parts for the last few years without either him or the club ending up any happier by contrast.

They can't even treat our players properly and they're giving money to that nut.
He'll probably drink it away, why can't Levy pay for him whats he ever done for us except provide a few laughs.

I'd prefer to read that we helped when he was desperate enough to come to us than read he would up dead and find out we'd told him to eff off and fend for himself.
Paying for his treatment was the decent thing to do.

It's a decent thing to do it's just there are so many causes we could prioritise. Gazza has spurned both personal wealth and previous help offered to him. He also likely has plenty of other avenues to seek help.

I'm sure there are plenty of other people in the local community who are homeless etc through no fault of their own and who never had a helping hand in their life.
This is an ex-millionaire footballer who pissed away his money and has received multiple handouts only to keep coming back with his hand out for more, we owe him nothing.
