I don't know how accurate salary reports are, but my feeling is it is sustainable in England. For the top clubs anyway.

TV revenue is massive, and ever increasing. Add that to brand commercialization and sugar daddyism and the top clubs are pretty comfy.

Besides Ashley Cole in his prime was an elite English footballer. Can't be used as a yardstick to judge average player salaries. I wonder how much Totti for instance is earning, or was earning a few years ago.

According to Google, De Rossi is the highest paid footballer in Serie A at around [size=x-small][font=arial, sans-serif]£[/font][/size]100,000 which is relatively low!

Wages are on another level in Premier League thanks to the insane television money. No one in Italy, and only Real Madrid and Barca in Spain, can match the English clubs. Tottenham have a bigger wage bill than Atletico Madrid, for instance.

Not really—on balance it's already changing the landscape and forcing the megaclubs to sell players in order to buy. There were always going to be these bumps in the road where those clubs would find loopholes or throw a bit of weight around.

I'd say we might not have got Welbeck without FFP.

Indeed. People focus too much on the little things. The bottom line is City, Chelsea and PSG have all significantly cut back on net spend. Even the likes of Real and Barcelona are being forced to sell top players too.

Personally don't see how the Welbeck transfer was affected by FFP. There isn't a club in the world that has benefited more from financial fair play than Manchester United. They didn't sell him because they needed to balance their budget.

It hasn't changed the landscape at all. Who are the favourites for the PL this season? The landscape is still very much in favour of the oil clubs. How much has Mourinho spent on talent since he arrived back at Chelsea?

Welbeck from United as was pointed out will have had almost nothing to do with FFP.
