Agree with Biggus. The pressure appears to be from Gazidis. Wenger be wengering.
I wish someone would go over Wenger and slap a 50m pound opening bid for Cavani today. Do that, bring in Aurier, and we're in a better place
What will our transfer net spending be this summer?
Wenger is Wenger but to put it all on Wenger a day after the CEO has spoken of financial restraints and juggling a budget is just being quite innovative.
Well Wenger is the manager so he should make all football decisions which is fair enough.
But he must also live or die according to the results of those decisions which he clearly doesn't.
Bah- The whole thing is fucked up.
Yeah, he should take all the blame. That is fair when it comes to football and performances of players he brings in. Let's not pretend though that he is alone in it. It's quite disgusting how the club behaves at times. All a matter of convenience. Ticket renewals are up and we have the Chairman convincing fans we can spend £100 Mn. A few weeks later when questioned on what would be a luxury buy in Cesc the CEO says we have restraints.
i have no problem with him saying there are restraints. personally, i would not go after Cesc as a priority. striker, AM, DM, RB, goalie. get good players across those positions, particularly the first two, and we're in much better shape. if we spend 70m pounds and do a good job of filling those positions, then i accept the financial constraints argument.
if however, we get to the final day of the transfer window with only 10m pounds in signings, then i will be furious. it will just show we're wallowing in Wengeriness
It was clearly stupid announcing to the whole that we were loaded and it was burning a hole in our pockets as Gazidis did last year.
I don't think any amount of backpedaling and mumbling about restraint will repair that.
I don't mind that tall claim as long as there is consistency in what comes out of the Executives' mouths. The Chairman and CEO can't be contradicting each other. Stay consistent and we can then very easily pin the blame on one person if money isn't spent. They are all obviously in it together. Like in any business, these decisions are taken together, rest is all PR.
We are a publicly listed company. Even an idiot can see that we are loaded. Gazidis was just confirming publicly available information, so I cannot fault him on that. And he possibly has to make these announcements to distance himself from the policies of the real seat of power - Wenger
Sir Chips claimed we were loaded, Gazidis
last evening said we have some restraints and need to juggle budgets. I don't know how he has by doing that corroborated publicly available information or distanced himself from Wenger.
There is no such thing as real seat of power. This is not politics or some crime syndicate. This is a business for the Executives. They say what they do to the media depending on circumstance and needs. They are all in it together. Wenger is an employee they are very happy with as evidenced by his contract. They are only distanced from who he ends up buying for the decided amount.
not so sure about being in it together. i work in a lot of organisations. publicly you read the newspapers and see all sorts of interesting contrasts in comments from different executives. it's only once you're working next to these guys on a daily basis that you understand the bases for any differences. and you realise just how fractured most corporations are. a lot of these guys are living on a prayer - their next mistake could be their last.

At least last Summer there was some comfort in the fact that it could have been Wenger's last season.
85m is a restraint. just because someone says we have restraints doesn't mean we can't spend big. it's not unlimited, we have finite resources.
and just like i don't believe anything gazidis says to these fan groups when it's about how much we can spend or the like, i won't believe him when he's claiming we're not after player X.
Changed my vote to 20-39, we'll get one good player and a bunch of cheap squad fillers.
i'm not going to depress myself, i'll leave that to wenger and co in august. i'm refusing to believe they are stupid (i write off previous transgressions to unnecessary conservatism), so we're spending big.

Agreed. We'll go nowhere again as usual with that.

Agree completely. Because if we don't spend, it will be out of pure stupidity, whatever way you look at it. Football or business context.
Biggus wrote:Dunno Y va, I get the impression that Gazidis wants us to sign a well known marquee player, it would make his job of selling the club to sponsors easier.
But Wenger has the final say as regards football matters, so we'll probably get some ligue 1 guy.
If the League 1 guy is Cavani I can live with that.
Rexy Rexy Rexy, you are too beautiful and delicate for such a brutal world as this.
