Both Tevez and Agüero are class up front on their own. Tevez is playing that way for Juve now too. You just need to stop pinging high balls at them.

Sanchez is similar in style to Tevez, Suarez and Aguero. He can absolutely play up top on his own in the right set up but that would require Wenger to drop his big man CF nonsense.

a hallmark of our play for the last 3 years has been getting the ball wide and firing in cutbacks or low crosses to the near post. the reservation i have with alexis is he'll have to learn the timing to attack those kinds of balls in the box. either that or we'll have to try and knock more balls in behind for him. wenger is good at creating these imponderables.

Jed, you seem totally oblivious to the fact that in English football the ball spends a lot of time in the air, and that includes nearly every set piece (both attacking and defending), and that 50% of goals are as a result of set pieces.
You also seem to assume that our two central defenders are all the height we'll need in the team to both attack and defend set pieces.......Most strange. :hmm:

I think we have Manolas wrapped up as replacing TV5 was always the plan. CM/ST will be depending on how the transfer dominoes start falling in the last week - and of course, also depending on our CL qualification. As we always seem to wait for it to make some business at the end.

Second time in as many days you're making this claim. Do you have a source to back it up? Last time I checked there were 1017 goals scored in Premier League last season, and only 225 of those came from setpieces. That's 22 percent, not 50.

Extending that thought further: 8 of our 68 league goals (12 percent) were from setpieces last season, but only 2 of them were scored by Giroud. If Sanchez proves to be lethal with his feet it would more than make up for those two goals we'll lose.

It really depends on how we play to get the best out of our CF. If you play Sanchez as a lone striker up top, I'd expect us to get alot of throughballs to his runs. Obviously you ain't gonna keep crossing. Sanchez can play up top on his own definitely. I really don't get people who is saying he will get bullied, he is as strong as you get for that size. He is good at holding up play and have a good leap on him too. Not everybody that is small is weak.

Anyway, we have spent 77m euros this year according to.

It's shocking how many flop players Ferguson bought in retrospect. He utterly failed to replace a single one of his aging performers and decided to run away before it all came down like a house of cards.

The thing about having Sanchez up front isn't that you can never have a centre forward who isn't tall. Its that in our team, if Sanchez plays up front you are looking at a front 4 of Sanchez, Ozil, Cazorla and Walcott/Wilshere/Ox. Thats a midgety unit and its not like Ramsey, Arteta or Flamini behind them are helping matters much.

Özil is around 6ft to be fair. Hardly pint sized. But yes, we need a couple of tall players somewhere to defend setpieces, especially since we just lost Sagna who was the best defensive header in the team.

Incidentally, this is another reason why Khedira would make a good fit. He's a monster in the air.

Yeah, set pieces are a real concern for us. If we drop Giroud only our CBs are above-average in the air.

And my source is every goal I watch (which is them all).
You realise that both our goals against Crystal resulted from set pieces don't you?

Too bad then, because my source is a site that counted every single goal that was scored in Premier League last season. It's not 50 percent, it's 22. Your eyes are letting you down.
