If we sign Rabiot and Manolas, we should be really happy about the summer.
We needed a striker - signed Sanchez.
We needed an extra CB - signed Chambers.
We need a DM - might sign Rabiot.
Sagna, Fabianski and Vermaelen are replaced with Debuchy, Ospina and maybe Manolas.

if sanchez is now counted as the striker signing that would be a problem. i would love manolas and rabiot coming in cheap if that meant we spent big on a real striker. from the beginning i felt that we needed to spend greater than 60m net to make us legit contenders. our net spending with manolas and rabiot would be about 40m.

A tall DM would allow us to play a small striker like Alexis upfront. While with Arteta we have no choice but to play Giroud to address the lack of height issue. Signing a tall DM with size would be like killing two birds with one stone. It really is imperative we get one this window.

I never said anything about Chambers nobody did, it took everyone by surprise, but so far I'm delighted with him.
I didn't want Sanchez nor Ozil either as I didn't think they were priorities, but they are Arsenal players now so I am willing to give them a chance.

Both Ozil and Sanchez are massive improvements on the smurfs that would otherwise play in their stead. But now we need to shake these millions of AMs and reinvest in a striker and a DM. It's frustrating how Wenger neglects these two positions. Striker especially. Sanogo is an eyesore for now. Maybe in 2016, he'll do a job.

Exactly right Claudius, but we know its a case of either/or not as well as.
Wenger has very fixed ideas of how he wants the team to look like and it involves a big front man it always has- Henry/Van Persie/Bendtner/Adebayor/Chamakh/Giroud/Sanogo notice the pattern here?
Those of you wishing that Sanchez will play alone upfront simply don't watch the PL, he is too small he will be physically out muscled and will never reach most of the balls played to him even Wenger is not that stupid and knows this.

By your logic, Aguero and Suarez will never be successful in PL either.

Suarez is comfortably taller than Alexis. Comfortably.

Aguero is a little bigger than Sanchez but smaller than I thought he was.

Aguero usually plays off of a target man (Dzeko, Negredo) in fairness.

and suarez played off another striker in sturridge. biggus has a fair point, alexis through the middle could flop badly, but i'd be happy to take any chance to see less of yaya/olly up front. we can always fall back on them if it backfires

I'd have the same worries as Biggus about Sanchez playing up top. Plus he's not a natural striker, I wouldn't mind Wenger seeing how it worked out but I don't know why so many people are so absolutely sure he'd make a great lone striker.

He's got good movement, he's pretty fierce in the air despite his height and he's got the attitude which would all help compensate for his size. You can't really guarantee anything unless you're spending 40m+ on a striker these days, but I reckon given a run there he'd be good at it, particularly with Ozil behind him and Theo joining in off the flank.

As has been pointed out, those players are bigger than Sanchez and played off an even bigger front man, I was struck how much physically dominated he was by the City 2nd team in the Community shield.
I emphasise again I'm not against Sanchez, he's neither physically nor mentally weak but he came from a much less physical league where it was virtually illegal to tackle Barcelona players.
He is now an Arsenal player and I hope he will find a place to thrive in our team, but front man he is not.
