Spending that much money on two players who occupy the same position when the squad has other areas which could do with investment (centre backs, the wing) doesn't make much sense to me unless money isn't a problem.

That was me assuming that Morata+Zlatan would cost as much as Higuain. If Morata+Zlatan wouldn't make sense because it costs too much, then neither would Higuain.

I think if we buy Zlatan we should have a talent who can take over when he declines, which should be soon enough.

I see where you're coming from but I'm not sure we've reached the point where we can have a £40-50m talent sit on the bench, even for a year. I'd rather we signed either and then spend the remaining funds on someone who can actually come into the first XI.

if we signed zlatan i think we could get at least 3 seasons out of him. we can keep giroud here as the backup plan for at least a year. we coukd then also buy a youngster this summer, someone in the 19-22 age range, and ease them in.

If you were Zlatan what would you do?

I'd sign for United for a year (try to get 2) then I'd just go to the USA for the next 2-3 years.

At this stage in his life it's just about the money, he's won the cups and got the accolades etc.

I would bet you anything Zlatan is desperate to win the Champions League before he goes off into semi-retirment in the States.

That rules United out (wonderful thing to be able to say again!). That leaves us as the only real option in England basically. Unless Leicester's chairman really wants to push the boat out! 😆

Seriously, I know it's going to cost us a fortune, but if he wants to come here we have to get him.

I wonder how much his transfer fee would be if he still had time on his contract. £20-£25m?

All just from this season alone. He's still got it - in case his 48 goals for PSG this season aren't proof enough. Best signing we can make this summer.

Unfortunately, Zlatan will remain a pipe-dream. Wenger is too stubborn.

According to a lot of well-sourced newspapers over here nothing has been decided yet, contrary to what he said after the final PSG game. His agent is trying to find a new club right now. He wants to stay in Europe. It's definitely not about the money, in that case he'd go to China or the US, or maybe Qatar. Bloke is a world class professional who still puts twice as many hours into training than everyone else. I think he wants to stay at the top for as long as he can.

My personal feeling is that he'll go back to Italy.

I think the Arsenal ship has sailed, but if he's interested in England we're the only fit. No one else will be able to sell him on CL and a shot at the league next season, and honestly I don't see Zlatan wanting anything to do with LVG.

Wish someone at Arsenal besides Wenger would just make this happen.

Agree with that, but I would also add that I don't think he will want to go to England.

Agreed, I think England stopped being an option as soon as United missed out on the final CL spot.

He has also had so many opportunities previously in his career to come to England, but never really been interested. I think even a guy like Zlatan, who has immense belief in his abilities, would concede that it would be a gamble for him to go to England at the age of 34.
