Yeah, fair point. I think you need to look at the team we've got right now though and ask yourself if we would have won the league with Ibrahimovic leading the line this season. It's hard to think we wouldn't have, no matter Wenger's tactical failings. Bloke has scored over 50 goals in 15/16 and assisted another 15 or so. We scored 65 in the league this year.

Well if we're talking about making footballing predictions on paper, this season would be the very worst one to go by. Maybe I over estimate the power of a losing mentality but I suspect we'd find a way to somehow sabotage ourselves even with Zlatan/Higuain. I'd rather start making these types of high risk investments when
Wenger's not around.

the math, if you want to use that, far favors signing zlatan over higuain. you can assume zlatan would want at least £250k per week plus a sign on fee. so you might end up having to pay him £9m total for 1 year. but you are only on the hook for 1 year. if you pay £60m for higuain, you are also going to pay him £7m in wages too for the next 4-5 years. with morata, similar deal

Only math I'm interested is the one that racks up goals and titles. Both would provide that but Zlatan is almost 35 and I'm convinced the ~~charlatans~~ medics at our club treat the players with snake oil concoctions

Don't think Higuain would cost 60m but even if he did looking at the season he's just had he'd be worth it. He's just destroyed a 60+ years old league record playing for Napoli, he'd ruin EPL defences all fucking day. Go watch an Özil key pass compilation and imagine a striker who just scored 36 league goals instead of Giroud at the end of those chances

The same goes for Higuain though.

Definitely. Higuain would win us the league next season too. He'll cost in the region of £60 million while Ibra is free though.

I don't think we can say Higuain / Ibra will win us the league in one thread, and then bemoan the very likely CB pairing of Koscielny - Gabriel and a CM that hasn't properly functioned in over a year.

We weren't scoring enough this year but there's far too many issues with this squad to think one player will have us winning the league next year.

Morata's scored 11 less league goals in his senior career than Higuain did just last season alone.

more to it than just stats. i see plenty of upside in morata given his age, and a more complete all round game. higuain is the better player now, but costs more, is older, and i have some doubts about him physically.

I kind of get what you're saying but one's a regular prolific goalscorer and the other's not.

For a striker that particular statistic matters IMO.

I have confidence in Morata to improve in terms of goalscoring but if given a choice of either I'd take Higuain no question.

250,000 x 52 comes to £13m not £9m. God knows how much he'd ask as a signing on fee on top of that.

Imagine Zlatan having to play with Walcott one side and Welbeck the other. He'd probably terminate his contract on the spot.

Higuain's scored loads of goals this season, but he hasn't played and scored against the best in the Champions League. Infact he has had the League only to focus on all season; no tiring midweek trips to eastern Europe or a knockout chasing the ball at the Camp Nou. One game a week all season.

Never liked him at Madrid, was further put off by his world cup in Brazil and his disastrous season last year - and to top it off he looks a stone overweight. I think he has flop written all over him. I've seen the goals he scored this year and there are some crackers, but dropping £50/60m is last resort territory for me. Better that than Giroud but I'd take Zlatan for a season or two or even Morata at £40m first.

If Higuaín was to come he would easily score at least 25-30 goals from the off, the main issue is I think he has 1 probably 2 more years until he starts to decline, it would be like what happened with VP.

We've sort of missed the boat on Higuaín's peak years. The upside on Morata is if he proves himself, we could break even or sell him at a profit in three or four years if our needs change.

This club needs to win something ASAP. Higuain is at his peak right now. So what if he falls off in 2 years, as long as we win the PL in the next year or so? After that we can attract some of the top talents once again and sign a younger striker.

If we're going to go for it, we need two forward signings.

If you told me we were getting Higuaín and Götze or Morata I reckon we could make a dent in the league next season.
