This is so going to happen. We'd have the best Uruguayan in the Premier League.
I think it will too. He's the only super quality we can access
Are they good friends with Suarez ? Get one in, attract the other ?!
Wengs is tight with the PSG board too. They'll probably knock a few million off the price for him just to make him feel like a fox. Everybody wins!
Plus Mr Puma will have a big ol' smile slapped across his Chevy seeing his boi run out decked out in puma Gooner gear
Now this rumor I like!
Have we got us the new llama thread?!
Caughtoffside or not, at least it's refreshing to be linked with Cavani's calibre of players again.
Want this to happen so badly. Can't see PSG letting him go though. They'd be mad to.
I have it on good authority that both Cavani and Wenger will both be in Brazil at some point this summer. Make of that what you will. I'm only telling you what I've heard.
They will be in breach of FFP next season too, and it has been said that repeat offenders will be punished more severely. Getting Cavani off their books would go some way to help them. In addition, they don't really need him anyway. Zlatan probably had his best season to date, and it doesn't look as if he is slowing down either. If they want a player for the flank, then there are in fairness better, and cheaper, alternatives around.
Think he'll sign for Spurs tbh.
Caught Offside links should be banned.
Not when they link us with Cavani ffs!
break the bank for eddie the god. guaranteed 30+ goals per season for the next 4 years
Obviously nothing in that link, but if we bid €60m/£49m they'll take it seriously IMO. Cavani is a great player but he's replaceable. He's owed €72m(!) over the next four years, if they're actually presented with the chance to get that off the books and get a big chunk of revenue to cover that FFP sponsorship devaluation I do think they'll have to consider it.
Wenger's just got to be aggressive. It's so hard to read him, gonna be a nervy summer. We have years of miserliness and caution and then he spent £42.5m last summer on Özil without blinking an eye. What Wenger are we getting this summer? The prospect of Cavani seems mildly realistic and a complete farce at the same time.
I wouldn't say it's a complete farce, not entirely unrealistic after the Ozil signing.
Would be an incredible signing.
Ozil and Cavani
------------Cavani
Chambo---Ozil---Walcott
------Wilshere-Ramsey
Shit god damned
a summer of cavani, martinez, aurier = a collective bricking it from our rivals. it's the stuff of muppet fantasies, but i'll let my mind wander this morning

4th place.
You don't like the Wilshere-Ramsey midfield, or what?
Stop it people. The fapping from this prospect is beginning to hurt.
---Wilshere---Cavani---Walcott
------------Ozil------Ramsey
---------------Martinez
Gibbs-------Kos-----Mert------Aurier
The front 5 can interchange at will with Martinez covering whichever flank is most exposed during overlaps.
Make it Rain, Arsene.
lol @ the thought of us bringing a 55m player soon after Ozil.
Ofcourse its just a dream, but damn if we actually do buy another player worth £40m+ ... (be it Martinez or a striker) ... Would certainly confirm we are shopping in that bracket again.

Despite the Ozil transfer, we're still at a negative net spend over the last 10 years.
Stadium debt mostly paid off, mountains of cash in hand, great cash flow from sponsorship and commercial deals.
If we really want to get Cavani we could do it easily, from a financial perspective anyway.

Yup. We need a midfielder to balance things.

He probably earns twice as much as any of our players at PSG, he'd have to take a pay cut to sign for us, probably a significant one. Why would he be willing to do that after a (relatively) successful season playing every game?
Because no-other club will pay him that much money especially with FFP and he needs to leave because he'll be shunted to the wing as Zlatan shows no sign of decline despite his age

I read he earns 170k a week, that's not that excessive, not much more than Ozil.

I like to believe that at that level of revenue playing in your preferred position, and being the main man, is more important than an extra 30k per week (Yes, it's 1.56m less per year, but if you're going to be earning about 8m does it really matter?).
Other financial incentives could be added too, if we want to put him an a wage similar to Ozil's. Higher proportion of image rights, higher performance bonuses, etc.
The main obstacle wouldn't be financial imo, the difficulty would reside in convincing him that we genuinely want to challenge for trophies and that we realistically can do so in the near future.
I'm fairly confident about this summer anyway, Wenger must have made assurances in order to convince Ozil to join us.
We need USarsenal to come in and declare he will eat ketchup on his shirt if this happens.
Ok, I'll eat my hat if we sign Eddie C.
I don't know, a world class player going to a less successful club on a lot less money because they'll play him in his correct position... There's no way this happens unless we pay him close to what he's making at PSG, which is almost double what Ozil gets here.

All sources have that as net. £15m a year over here.

PSG are nobodies, Ligue 1? Please. It's a step up to come here in the footballing sense.
Cavani up front would be perfect. He's a monster. He is a superb athlete, quality on the ball, great finisher, works hard and has a winner's mentality. Can't see us signing him this summer.
i keep seeing this posted (by arsenal and other fans): stadium debt mostly paid off. it's not. the annual payments are same as they always were, it's basically a mortgage. there was always too much hype to begin with about arsenal's debt, so now that it's clearly a non-factor the media and the like are talking about it as if it's almost off the books. it's simply that the short term risks the club took with property development is free and clear now. but our stadium mortgage will continue for the foreseeable future (2026 i think).
It's not but the extra 100m a season eases any concerns.
New sponsorship deals and more tv money means we can crank up the spending a fair bit. It's mostly a matter of making the most of it now. £50 million for Cavani is huge money but in a few years it won't look as exorbitant. There will be plenty of £35-40 million transfers this summer.
