I dunno, I think it's just the money that we're struggling to match. If we offer what Man City offered, I think Sagna would've stayed. Just guessing though, and I'm not blaming Sagna because he has given his best years to us.

But I agree that it's all related. If we win more trophies, we'll grow as a club on and off the field, and we'll keep our Ramseys and Chamberlains in the future.

Other clubs have always offered more money than us. It is an issue but I can't help but feel that in most cases, the fact we can't enable our players to fulfill their ambitions is the main reason. Sagna has been pretty loyal too.

I don't think you can really add Fabianski, Traore, Larson and Sidwell, but the rest all joining rivals, unheard of, except for in Serie A.

Arsenal’s FA Cup success last month was Sagna’s first trophy at the club and the defender admits he found it tough to focus on the Wembley final given his contract situation.

“It was not an easy time because we were still involved in the FA Cup and it was hard to stay focused,” he added. “I stayed focused on my team because I have a lot of respect for Arsenal. I believe Arsenal is a great team. I believe we have great quality and we won a trophy finally. It’s not even about that, because Arsenal have a quality.

“It’s just that, personally, I wanted a boost. I needed to start from the bottom again. It is an exciting time for my career because I’m 31.”

Those who were saying his performances got worse in the 2nd half of the season was right, he lost focus.
