Vela's the closest thing to Messi there is?
Are we supposed to take this Fano guy's opinion very seriously after that comment?
Carlos Vela
I think he meant in terms of style. Not that outlandish a statement to be fair.
I'd still have doubts about his mentality and his ability to adapt (again) to a foreign culture.
That'd be my main concern too.
He gave a few interviews when he settled at Sociedad in which he spoke about how unhappy he'd been with life here.
He's maybe grown up enough now to put that behind him.

Oier Fano's been gushing over him on his Twitter account, said he's the closest thing to Messi there is. Also said he'd walk into our team and that the likes of Poldi and Ox are a 'joke' in comparison. He's a season ticket holder at Real Sociedad.
The fanny obviously hasn't seen enough of Arsenal though.
Kike Marin saying today that this is all driven by Velas agent though.
No surprise there. I reckon we'll only sign the likes of Vela and Remy if they're still available towards the end of the window when everything else has failed.

You think Wenger is gonna buy two strikers this summer?
Depends on who leaves. I don't think it's very unlikely that we will get one class forward and one cheaper player that can also play wide, like Vela or Remy.
Seems to have done a bit more growing up since leaving. Some muscle in those dribbles.

Look, no one was more disdainful than me of Latin pussies who came here thinking all they had to do was fanny about a bit with the ball and everyone would fall down and worship their obvious wonderful superior technique, but then they start moaning about the weather and people kicking them.
But theres a huge difference between 21 and 25 mentality wise, so perhaps he's worth a second look.
Agreed. He could easily stay in Spain where he's comfortable but if he's willing to move it means he's ready to make a proper go of it this time round.

Compilation of Vela's performance in Sociedad's latest match vs Granada. He really has turned into a top player. Everything Sociedad do from an attacking point goes through him. He's become a leader as well. A completely different player from the one we had.
Also, Kike Marin says Vela is certain to quit Sociedad this summer.
Vela on the right wing would work.
That Video doesn't show anything new. He's always had talent but he still looks week, still runs into trouble and gives the ball away. A highlight reel doesn't display how much he gets involved in play, or answer the question marks about his mentality.
Yeah. Keep hearing people saying he's changed and a much better player but I've watched a few compilations and can't say I'm that impressed.
Dunno what it is but everything he does kinda looks so awkward, unnatural and forced. Maybe it's because of how one footed he is.
one-footed? also known as left-footed?
Messi is one footed. So is Robben. Didn't stop becoming world class.
Messi isn't one footed.
Quite a reliable account.
A good replacement for Bendtner, I guess.
Well, well ...
He's a steal at that price. Just hope he isn't our only signing up front.
Solid signing.
RW: Chambo/Vela
LW: Caz/Podolski
One of Podolski or Cazorla to leave next summer once Theo is back to full fitness.
So we're taking Marin's word that he's going to be signed then?
Why?
Welcome to Arsenal Football Club
He said it on twitter. Must be true.
Wouldn't be surprised if it's just agent talk still.
Gurgen wrote:He's a steal at that price. Just hope he isn't our only signing up front.
My sentiments too.
Given Wenger's refusal to play him up top in his first stint, I wonder what he has in mind for him this time around? Out wide I'm guessing. Leaves us well stocked in that area though but a good mix of players.
Direct: Podolski/Vela/Walcott
Non-direct: Ox/Santi/Jack
Carlitos!
Vela is alright at right wing these days. He is also a guy to chuck on as a second striker when needed.
And so it begins, 12 year old Arsenal fan's ridiculous comparisons:
You also have to pro-rata upwards vela's stats to consider he plays for a weaker team
Bloody kids didn't think of that did they?!
Irish gunner wrote:And so it begins, 12 year old Arsenal fan's ridiculous comparisons:
Ridiculous indeed. Vela has scored more and costs €87.5m less. Bale clealry doesn't hold a candle to him.
So this is a done deal?
Good. This is a really solid bit of business even if he never kicks a ball.
According to the contract signed when his transfer was formalized, the Real could sell Vela and pay Arsenal the percentage share of the operation, but did not, hence the Gunners have now executed the purchase option, pending what sports decision making Arsène Wenger. Ie if it has the Mexican striker for his team next season or whether, by contrast, puts it in a calculation or accept any of the offers that your representative has for him. In both cases, the second seems the most logical, Arsenal must take into account the views of Vela.
From his whole article
The report seems to indicate he will be brought back and sold. Makes sense in a way actually. If Arsenal let Sociedad sell him we make a total of 3m plus half of his release clause of 25m so a total of a max 15.5 million. If we buy him back for 4m that puts us at -1m but if we sold him for anything more than 16.5m which we could easily than we would earn more this way.
There's no way Vela would agree to that, and if we were secretly planning to do so the journo wouldn't know about it. You then also have to consider that he'd not play much next season if he's not deemed good enough so his value will dip. It'd be a silly move.
If this does happen it's just because Wenger senses a bargain.
Not sure if this is correct but remember reading a player can't register for 3 clubs in one year under UEFA/FIFA rules so we wouldn't be able to buy him back just to sell.
Demichelis did it
