It's the 17th of June and most of the players we should be looking at are currently in Brazil.
Not exactly what I'd describe as dithering.
It's not as if we need anything other than a RB urgently.
Or are people suggesting it will be some kind of catastrophe if whoever we sign is not available for pre season?
Carlos Vela
We need a gk, rb, cm and striker. If Vermaelen leaves, we will also need a cb. Could also use a winger.
That's six players. A rb and gk should have already been done.
Kel Varnsen wrote:This makes no sense. We supposedly have a massive cash reserve and could spend close to Β£100 mill on players if we wanted/needed to. I don't think these sales have anything to do with who or when we buy.
It makes perfect sense, Kel. I'm not suggesting there's a causal relationship between the two, just that they're strategically aligned.
Forgoing Vela's signing and pocketing 8m works well if we plan to sign another, more expensive, higher profile player in the same area of the pitch.
Maybe they are linked in some ways, if we want a better player in a particular position, but there is no way we're building up a transfer kitty.
The GK, CB, CM are back-up signings and can easily be made later on.
Striker and RB are number 1 priority, with a bit more leeway in the timing for filling a CM position.
I genuinely don't get the panic.
Neither do I think we're going to make 6 signings
As for holding out for more money for Vela, we may as well do so while business is frozen for the WC
Wouldn't expect you to get it.
True, your suggestions are based on a rather hysterical response to the current situation.
I tend to be more rational
Zing!
I suspect we've already got our key signings lined up. Wengs might pull one out the hat for a back up centreback. If caulker goes to Everton he may swoop for Jagielka

Suggesting we're dithering is 'hysterical'? As a woman you should be an expert on all things hysterical.
Cut out the personal abuse, Kel.
It is not the world cup I'm worried about, I honestly don't think we know what we are doing yet.
The club dithers its way through each transfer window like a baffled child sent out to the shops.
I think maybe this notion of us "dithering" is mostly a clichΓ©, a received idea.
As soon as we dont sign a player within 48h after DailyFail links us to him its Wengers fault for 'dithering'.
Yes, hopes and dreams courtesy of the DailyMail brutally crushed by dithering doddering Wenger.
I think it's crazy that there are still those who think Wenger will sort out our many problems this summer. Fool me once, shame on me. Fool me nine times, i still get fooled?
I haven't seen one single post by anyone confident that Wenger will sort out our problems this summer.
Wenger dithers. That's what he does. He does it in the transfer market when we need new players and he does it during matches when we need tactical changes.
So sticking rigidly to the same tactics, formations and substitute timings is an example of Wenger being indecisive?
There is certainly something wrong with the way we go about transfers, and I just don't believe Wenger isn't, at least partly, one of the reasons for it. Chelsea has just in the last few weeks proved that making top signings early is far from impossible, and we saw the same thing last summer for plenty of clubs.
I just don't think that we are ever prepared to sign a player for the asking price of the selling club. That is my take on it anyway, but I am sure other people at the club are to blame for that as well.
