Yup, never heard that. It's not like the scenario presents itself very frequently in football.

Quite clearly offside actually. Look at the line. The other angle is much clearer actually if we can find a gif of it.

That shouldn't matter. That shot was blocked. It's a new situation when it comes off the defender.

He's behind one of the defenders but behind the GK when Giroud last touches the ball. He's 100% offside.

Sure, but we're not counting from the moment Giroud hits the ball. Giroud's shot was blocked. Özil was not offside at the time it was blocked as far as I can see. It's a separate occasion.

The offside is taken from the moment the ball is being played(shot or passed). Any deflection or rebound doesn't change the decision.

No, when it comes off the defender. There are two defenders back when Giroud's shot is blocked. The ball bounces off the first of the two and lands at Özil's feet. Özil is in line with that player when it happens. How is that offside by any definition in the rulebook?
