Super signing if true, they really need a left back and Shaw will nail that down for the next decade.

Man utd will be up there next year again. They'll sign another 3-4 strong players and hire a new, less incompetent manager this summer. Will make it difficult to finish in the top four next season, unless we get a new manager (or Wenger suddenly changes his modus operandi).

We should have been all over Shaw.

Can see why we weren't. We have 2 decently experienced (albeit not top quality) left backs, we desperately need to sign a top striker, midfielder and probably a rightback. The last thing we would have done is spent 30M on a 18 year old left back.

We need top class additions irrespective of position. Sell Gibbs and Monreal for all I care. You move when someone like Shaw becomes available.

Beating out Man U to get Shaw wouldn't have made sense or have been plausible this summer (Man U are the one team in the PL that we can't compete with financially) but I don't get why we didn't go for him instead of Monreal.

We can compete with City and Chelsea, just not United?

Our cash on hand plus our cash generating ability is equal to or better than that of City and Chelsea while vastly inferior to that of Man U. At the same time, new regulations which are supported by every single European club that has established themselves as a globally important brand (bar none) dictate that a club's ability to spend is equal to their cash on hand plus their cash generating ability.

Which part is confusing?

FFP. United have the revenue to justify massive spending.

That would be a typical Man Utd signing if true. If a young English player seems to have great talent, they'll spend a massive amount and hope they won't have to touch that position for another 10 years. Been underwhelming of late but wouldn't be surprised if they offered big money for Barkley in the summer.

Keep thinking Shaw is massively overrated, then realise he's still a teenager. Still, good as he is, it's the core that United need to address.

As for us going for Shaw, the improvement would have been minimal, there's probably 6 or 7 other positions that would improve us more and for £30m odd it wouldn't be hard to find someone equally good if not better.

 We need a new striker, midfielder, left winger, centre back and probably a new starting right back and people think we should've spent 30 million on a left back?

Utd. will show us how it's done this summer while we scrap around for Kalou and Ba on loan on deadline day.

They spent the entire last Summer trying to sign Herrera from Bilbao for 30m only having to realize on the last day that they can't get their man so they have to pay an extra 4m to land Fellaini on deadline day. I'm not sure they'll show us how it's done. First and foremost they need a new manager with a plan for his team. Imagine if it's Giggs who'll stand with the respobsibility of rebuilding their squad in the Summer 😆

mancs will be going crazy in the window. could work against them having so much player turnover AND a new manager that needs to build the team. now that they've bitten the bullet and sacked moyes, it feels like this is the official end of an era at united.

If Cesc is on the market and interested in moving back to England I'm convinced that we'll get him.
