They're getting their business done quickly, 2 signings already.
Two nothing signings
I can't imagine how this place would react if we were out there signing players like Ricky Lambert. It's losing it's shit already, but signing nuffies would push it over the edge.
Do you realise they scored the 3rd highest goals in PL history last season (the most away goals ever)? They have an almost perfect attack, Lambert would give them something different. Sturridge and Suarez score in almost every game, so teams generally have to score a minimum of 2 goals against them to have a chance of winning. And they've bid £25m for Lallana (yes another attacking player), at Arsenal some fans would be screaming 'not needed!'.
Can't say much about Emre Can, but he looked better than Bender (highly rated) in the CL last season. I wouldn't be too quick to judge him, let's see how performs for them.
Ricky1985 wrote:They've got two decent deals in early, but it's easy to sign squad players no other decent team wants. In the positions where they need to sign starting quality players, Champions League quality players - namely, in their back four, which is piss poor - they haven't signed anyone.
Looks like they've tied up Moreno for £18m, I think they only need 1 CB and a RB to replace Johnson - word is they are looking at Aurier. Flanagan would act as a solid cover for RB and LB.
I think their transfers are hit and miss, but do they seem to have a plan and are not afraid to spend big. Can you honestly see us spending £18m on a fullback?
They spent £19m on Glen Johnson once upon a time - the price frequently doesn't reflect quality, I'll see what this Moreno's like when he gets here. If he even gets here at all.
And if we're passing up Aurier when we are in desperate need of a new right back, and with him practically begging us to come here, what does that say about his quality? A Ligue 1 player no less, Wenger's favourite!

True, but my point was, if they really like a player they are not afraid to splash the cash on that player. We probably like Coleman for example, but I'm sure we won't go anywhere near him because of his price tag.
BTW Benatia was also practically begging to join us few years ago, but we didn't make a move for him and Roma are now asking 50m for him.
Newcastle sign unknown young striker. We might as well put in a bid now because we know he'll turn out good. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/27730379
Wow, he's not French!

Every case is different. The fact remians; the more desirable a player is the harder he is to sign. Liverpool have signed a couple of half decent players, and are reportedly trying to sign a left back for big money - none of the players are or were wanted by other Champions League clubs, and so they've got them in without much resistance. If they wanted Coleman they wouldn't have signed him by now, if they want a top centre back that is interesting multiple Champions League clubs, they won't sign him now, etc.
Wenger isn't talking out of his arse when he says there's more than one party involved in a transfer and he can't control what those other parties do. It's frustrating for us fans but signing top players isn't easy for anyone.
On Benatia, not that I've really watched him, Roma can ask what they want, but I don't see Real Madrid, Bayern Munich or Barcelona beating down their door to try and sign him.
Laporte has extended with Bilbao to 2018

If they lose Suarez that attack won't be anywhere near the level it was last season. Also teams will clock onto the fact that when you sit deeper they don't find it so easy to break teams down. Rumours are already starting in Madrid about a bid for Suarez. If they lose him then will be interesting to see how they replace his threat up top. I do have my suspicions that the bid for Lallana is because they might lose Suarez, not like for like but they'll probably play Sturridge up top and Lallana & Sterling off him.
As for the players they've signed, neither are particularly great players but valuable additions to their thin squad. Can isn't that highly rated, some people in Germany wondering why Liverpool have even signed him! Say he is young and raw but needs to improve a lot. Unlike us though they are looking to get things sorted whereas in the past we've not really done that. This time though we don't need that much depth, just more top quality.

One of the highest rated young CBs going, his buyout clause has gone up so we probably won't make a move but this guy could potentially be the best out of the current crop of young French CBs!

Have to say Jazz, Varane and Laporte has the makings for a dominant partnership for France very soon. I think he'd be well worth it at his release clause.
Absolutely, those two will be immense for them in the years to come. Supposedly Barca & Bayern were willing to activate his clause this summer but I reckon another season or two will do him good there.
Guys out here talking about Liverpool signings not working when these guys came close to winning the league, scored a mad number of goals, and overwhelmed several opponents including ourselves, in a much lower budget than Arsenal. Which part of this is not working?

No ones shaking kos from that spot.
In the near future no but he is nearly 30 whereas they are 20 & 21!

As an Arsenal fan you should know you don't get anything for nearly winning the title. Next season they'll have CL football to contend with and possibly be without Suarez, then we'll see how well the plan is working. And then teams won't be so naive against them next season and sit deeper to neutralise their counter attacking threat. The high pressing game won't be so easy when you're not playing a game a week.
Also to say much lower budget is probably factually incorrect, their squad cost isn't much different to ours.

How the fuck did we let this happen?

Do you realise they finished second despite scoring like a thousand goals? You don't think it'd be easier to improve a defense that let in more than Crystal Palace than to add more goals to an already impressive attack?
The reason they didn't win it isn't because they only scored 101 goals, it's because they conceded 3 against Crystal Palace, 3 against Stoke, 3 against Cardiff and 3 against Hull.
Them signing Lambert would be like us signing Osman. If you'd be happy with that then I don't really know what to say.
Them signing Lambert is in line with the fact that they have 6 more games.
They can concurrently address the defense that failed them. It is important to have a squad.
Not fussed about Lambert, but Can is a great signing for 10m. Could have easily used him for Arteta's role.
Rumours of Kroos to R.Madrid doing the rounds, they were linked to Rakitic as well but looks like he is off to Barca. Wonder what that means for Di Maria then because you'd think in the middle three he'd miss out.
Was hoping Bayern would keep him and then there might be a slight chance they'd sell Martinez! Wishful thinking though!
Kroos in Khedira out?
