Fernando Torres couldn't replace Andy Carroll right now. He's been neutered.
Other clubs' transfer activity - Summer 2014
Nah I think Torres could still do a decent job.
Chelsea close on Costa and Filipe Luis.
And forget Torres FFS. 19 league goals in the last 4 years, 30 and 160k a week contract for the next 2 years at Chelsea.
Fucking hell.
Torres is an icon at Atletico, and they will certainly be keen to bring him back. The wage thing can always be solved.
What about the small matter of the non-scoring thing?
I think he still has something to offer. I bet you he'd score a lot at a club like ours but he needs to leave Chelsea to save his career, or whatever is left of it!

I'd take that bet. Torres is done.
Torres as first choice at Atletico would do decent enough.
Torres is a sight more sad than Giroud
Well, yes. But he is to Atletico fans what Henry is to Arsenal fans. Bringing him back can never be wrong for Atletico Madrid.
I think Atletico are well aware they will find it difficult to keep Costa. Selling him to Chelsea, bringing back Torres, and possibly get some sort of deal regarding Curtois to go with it is the best possible scenario for them really. Didn't Simeone also recently say that Costa to Chelsea was something he could get behind?
From what ive read I dont think Atletico even want to keep Costa. Would rather cash in now.
They do, and they don't I reckon. They want to keep him for sporting reasons of course, but their finances dictate that cashing in when his stock is at its highest may be the sensible thing to do.
They are fucked if they replace him with Torres though. I'm confident that Simeone won't do that. He's not an Atletico fan and has no previous connection to the dud, so why would he screw his own team over by signing him? Costa's ability to turn games in their favour is what they need to replace, not just his precence up front.
Torres is nearly not as bad as people make it out to be. The injuries he had before joining Chelsea did leave their mark though and he lost that edge that made him stood out, but half of his current problems are related to where he plays right now. Chelsea is not a good footballing side. Their setup is made for a 'beast' striker a la Drogba, Costa, Ibra etc. Im actually quite sure that Torres would work really well for a side like us.

Looks like they are in contact. Think the deal would make sense to both parties, don't think he would be on mega wages at Atletico

He's done mentally. Every time I've seen him live (only 3 times tbf) he purposefully hides from the ball, he genuinely doesn't want it.
going back to his boyhood club could be exactly what he needs, he's worshipped there.. Confidence makes a world of difference for strikers.
He'd be good for us
We need a pacey dribbler
