It's big money, but you really don't think PSG, City and Chelsea would have jumped at the opportunity? Özil himself didn't want to move before he had a falling out with Ancelotti. A transfer was never really on the cards until the final days of the window.

Who knows, I guess. At the end of the day we paid an enormous sum of money and a big wage for a world class player, and we also got in to the players ear and convinced him on a personal level. If we continue like that we'll pick up plenty more top players regardless of the competition.

Don't go by the stats otherwise you would have to say Giroud is the best player listed there.

Vieri, Hasselbank, Torres, Forlan, Aguero, Falcao & Costa are some of the strikers they've had in the past 17 years and they'd want Giroud?

Last summer, there were rumours that Valencia were interested in him as a Soldado replacement. This year it's Atletico - no smoke without fire?

Unless we get in a couple very good strikers I'm not that open to the idea of letting him go. Even then that is a risk because it will take them time to settle.

Henry, Van Persie, Bergkamp, Ian Wright are some of the strikers we've had and this guy starts for us

I think all of them were scored in a short streak around Christmas too.

Edit: Was in January, not during Christmas. One against Spurs, a brace against Fulham and another goal against Southampton.

I think we all thought he would turn out better than he did and coming from the French league it can be hard to predict. Now he is playing at the highest level most clubs will know exactly what they are getting.

Those are PL stats only. He scored against Liverpool.

To sum it up you could argue that Cazorla has had a good cup season and a difficult league season, I suppose.

Cazorla's a fine player - as are Rosicky and Oxlade-Chamberlain, both have produced quality performances - but we've overplayed them in the second half of the season given their limited goal output. We just haven't had enough competent strikers in the squad since Walcott went down.

If Atletico were to lose Costa, Giroud would be a decent replacement. They might go in for someone like Vela as well. The two plus David villa could be enough to compete. Giroud is good enough to be the piece of a puzzle. He is not going to carry a team. He is too limited mentally and physically to do so, but Atletico are a very well-coached team where he could just slot in

We should hold on to Giroud. We're not buying two strikers in one summer. Need to hold on to all players we have (except Bendtner) and make around 3 additions to have a great squad.

Giroud is invincible (unbreakable invincible). We've done our best to overplay him to exhaustion but he stays going somehow. If hes back up he'll always be fit while someone like sanogo may keep missing large chunks of the season.

Atletico need pace up front and somebody who can hold the ball up. With their scouting network I'd guess they'll find someone unknown/better than Giroud to replace Costa.

Fernando Torres will replace Costa, with Costa going the other way. They may look for further striker reinforcements, but there it is.
