Only reason why Di Maria works in midfield for Madrid is that they already have Alonso and they also have Modric who has a tremendous work rate. Mata offered nothing defensively which is why Maureen got rid of him. That midfield would get killed defensively in the premier league and it doesn't even have any exceptional CB's among the back 3 to make up for.

The will probably invest in a new DM.

That looks a good team. Rooney is a little out of place on the left but he's played wide before and if he underperforms bring in one of Januzaj, Young, Valencia, Kagawa.

Bayern have confirmed the signing of Mehdi Benatia. Great piece of business for them.

We should try Roma for Leandro Castán while they're busy selling off their starting players. He's not as individually outstanding as Benatia perhaps, but he was the better player of the two last season in my opinion. Really good defender with a really good left foot.

You have to admire Bayern; injury to Martinez and what do they do? Go out and get the best potential replacement available (Benatia). Such a no nonsense club.

I wonder if this means Dante is on the market, by the way, since Badstuber is back too. Could be an excellent signing for us.

He would, but it wouldn't make sense if Bayern bought Benatia because Martinez is injured and then sold us Dante.

I don't think they bought him because Martinez is injured though. I think they bought him because Dante was disappointing last season and just turned 30.

Not a panic buy, but they are clearly paying too much. I guess that is necessary when they can't offer champions league football. Think they still need 2-3 players to finish in the top four.

I think they will buy at least one more midfielder and one more defender. They will take their time to gel, but 4th is within their reach.

I thought it was a bit strange that United officially came out with how much it cost them to buy di Maria. Maybe I'm used to Arsenal's usual 'undisclosed fee' line but it seemed a bit crass.

Its official though, Everton now have a better and deeper strikeforce than Arsenal ...

... and i dont even rate Eto'o. At all. I think he is garbage.

Well garbage scored goals against us, Liverpool, Hat-trick vs man utd, spurs. Obviously lost his pace but miles better than Sanogo.

Marcotti on the times podcast said ADM was offered to PSG at €65m and couldn't understand how the price had gone up €10m to €20m in a month. He also said that Di Maria had said that he didn't want to go to United a month ago and changed his mind when there was only one route out of Madrid.
