I thought we were talking about the game at Arsenal's level? :hmm:
Roberto Martinez
Yeah, sorry.
amateurish defending. inability to sniff out danger, and no concept of defending as a team. it's as simple as, if one player gets dragged out of position, then everyone needs to slide over.
wengers been making everyone look like a tactical genius lately. the martinez knob slobbering over the weekend was a bit much. he's done a fine job, but our team literally did nothing well on the day. everton just had to turn up and play hard, and the game was over.

Brief insight into his training sessions, interesting read
doesnt seem unusual at all.
i like martinez, but i think when you're facing coaching the caliber of wenger (and worse) in the premier league, it's easy to look like a genius. get someone from spain ... i like diego simeone. seems like the complete opposite of wenger and i really need that in our next manager.
i feel like he's another flavor of the month. he's had two great years with atletico, but he's had a decidedly mixed record in argentina before that, having resigned twice due to shit results. is he responsible for scouting and assembling this atletico team?
we've seen it so many times before, when a manager wrongly gets the credit when it was the director of football or the previous manager who assembled the squad (laudrup, blanc, deschamps, coyle, etc).
How accepted would Simeone be in English football? Not that it matters I guess, but wouldn't there be vitriol at most away grounds? Would it be worth the bother? Or will people have forgotten about all that by now?
most sane people would've gotten over it, but the tabloids would be sure to drum up some nonsense among the 606-ish crowd
The media will certainly want to remind everyone constantly.

i honestly don't care if he had a say in the scouting and assembling of the team. just hire a director of football and then he can hire some real scouts. i'm so over this the manager is responsible for everything.
the point is, he may not be a good manager.

Thing is though Meaty, the PL is a very different type of competition to la Liga and methods don't necessarily travel well.

he's good on match day.

Right there with you Meatwad. Whoever comes in next needs to bring coaches, scouts and ideally some legit physio's.
Replacing Wenger with anther dictator is the worst thing we could do. The game is far too advanced and the club is too big to put coaching, scouting, diets, etc. all on one person - even if they want it.

It certainly looks like that'll be the case. I'm sure I read somewhere the other day, perhaps one of John Cross' articles, that the contracts of the coaches and other backroom staff (don't know to what extent) are linked with Wenger's contract, and part of the uncertainty within the training ground about the manager going or staying is to do with the staff being unsure of their own future.

Right, because a director of football i.e. someone who doesn't know enough to become a manager, knows more about which players to sign than the manager.
obviously a manager would have a say in the kind of players he want -- a list of names perhaps. it's his playing system after all, can't have the mismatch of players we have now who don't fit any system we're attempting to play. it just won't be his job to acquire them and determine what a good price is, just like it is on the continent (it seems to work for them, they kinda have superior teams to us). the manager is responsible for the training ground and match day.
i also want the physios to be responsible for their area and held accountable. so if a player is in the red, he doesn't play, manager wants him to play, too bad he can't. that way when shit goes wrong it's easy to isolate who the fuck ups are. right now wenger can play a player in the red and then have his fan boys blame our shitty medical staff.
We seem to want to emulate Bayern, which is not a bad ambition, and they certainly don't give the manager absolute power over anything, not even transfers.
