Some Newcastle website saying a few weeks his representatives met ours as well. He would be ideal for us, I reckon we could sell Giroud and get him in and probably break even. He can also play out wide for us which will give us further depth there.

Tried to look up further about the rape thing and I can't find any further information on why he was acquitted

He's poor with his back to goal. I'd rather play Theo upfront which says a lot 'cos I'm not a huge fan of Theo in that position.

I would target Welbeck to be our back-up striker. Sell Giroud and bring in Costa or someone of that ilk.

On the other hand Welbeck is poor at scoring goals. He's English, expensive, plays for united and has a horrible goal record. God knows why one would want him.

Welbeck has scored 9 league goals from just 12 starts this season ie 3 less goals than our 1st choice striker who has started most of our league matches this season. And how many games has Welbeck started as a striker? very few. He's played a lot out wide or behind the main striker.

But forget those stats, Welbeck is a better footballer than Remy: better passer, dribbler, vision, link-up play etc and he's just 23 (Remy is 27). I also don't think playing for a crossing team like man United gets the best out of him, He would be immense in a through-ball team like ours IMO.

Utd won't sell us Wellbeck anyway, so who cares?

I like Remy, but he's poo out wide.

Been reading rumours Man United will sell him this summer. We sold them Van Judas, so maybe they'd return favour especially given the fact that he isn't a starter? I don't know, but I'd like us to try.

Remy for me is a typical counter attacking striker that thrives at small clubs. His play with his back to goal is quite poor IMO.

Nothing wrong with being a counter attacking striker.

There is when 80% of the games you'll play are not going to be on the counter.

Wellbeck is one of the very few locals in the united team. I think they'll keep him.

Remy is a better footballer than Welbeck. People on here wouldn't be in favor of it but a Remy/Giroud strike force (with Remy starting more often than not) would be pretty good.

Obviously it would be preferable to get one of Benzema/Cavani/Costa but its hard to know if they'll be available or if they will want to come here

Remy is a much better footballer than Welbeck. Obviously.

We have to blow most of our summer budget on a striker who will destroy PL defences and who's got the stamina to play at least 90% of our PL games.
The kind of striker who every player on the team knows can be trusted to score given half a chance.
No more half measures, stop gaps, journeymen or flakes.

By that I mean somebody a whole lot better than Remy

Unless we get Costa I think that ship has sailed with our dropoff in the league.

Just have to offer big wages to compensate.

What style of player is Ciro Immobile Klaus?
I never watch Serie A but he's top of the goal scoring list with Tevez.

I'd take Welbeck over Remy.

Counter-attacking threat (contrary to his name!). Good player but too raw and too weak for my liking. I'd go for Alessio Cerci instead if we're shopping Torino. He's an excellent wide man with bags of pace and trickery. Reminds a little bit of Robben in his skillset but he's not an utter arsehole as a person.

But we already have an immobile striker
[takes hat]

We'll have CL football, after that anyone willing to come to England is just going to go where the most money is available.

We need a striker that big teams will fear , Loic Remy isnt one of those. We've had Wrighty , Anelka , Henry , Bergkamp , RVP .. guess when our striking problems started ?

We also had Adebayor, don't forget that Van Persie was useless until his last season.

Biggus, where do you come up with this stuff? v Persie would get stats like 12 goals in 22 games in the seasons before he found health.

When we sold Adebayor?

Just scored this today

i'd take remy on the cheap if it meant we were signing another star striker. only signing remy after the last 2 years, and we might as well pack our shit for 2014/2015 as well

remy would be a great wiltord-type option off the bench

In 22 games over how many seasons?
Ade got 30 in one season and yet he's apparently been written out of history.

this was in one season. i think it was around 2009. he always got the job done. he just wasn't healthy. Ade threw away a chance to be great. his mind ain't right

He wrote himself out of it.

Indeed, some here are thinking we might want him as lead striker but as an option who could play across the whole front three and available for around £10m I think it is a no brainer.

what Jazz said. it's silly to not snap up a double figure scorer at 10m pounds

Sell Giroud, get Remy and Mandzukic.

Would you lot be happy with that?

As long as we got a quality wide player in I could live with that.

Also need a DM, and possibly two defenders if Bac and Vermaelen leave

I'd be chuffed with that.

Nope

Indeed. We are all wishing for better, but enough of the merely good to very good strikers. I want a solid, top class forward. Someone who brings the X factor into your attack. To thrive on Ozil. Everyone agrees we've got cash now, yes? Good. Take it. spend it. And not on Loic Remy

cheap, yes

pacy, yes

french, yes

top top kwality, nope

we will definitely sign him as he will be good "value" for wenger.

The worry for anyone strongly anti Wenger is that if we sign draxler. There's no point changing manager, no other manager will know what to do with the squad.

Wenger doesn't know what to do with this squad.

Giroud up front and playing Ozil off him???

And what would be wrong with that? You can't have every player in your squad being world class. Are Schurrle or Salah world class? No they're not but they work well in their system and give them options

As a first choice player I'd say no but as a member of the squad at £10m is a no brainer.

Okay lets say we get a 'good' striker like Remy. Then I'd want a world class Arteta replacement and/or winger as compensation.

Jed wrote:

Mandzukic isn't much better than Giroud, but the latter is already used to the PL. And signing Remy would be underwhelming, to say the least.
