You could find the likes of Soldado, Jovetic, Negredo and certainly Eto'o floating around every summer. Suarez was never really available either in the end.
Mario Mandzukic
I really don't want him.

He's 6 foot 0 or 181 cm
Not exactly big either
Jovetic turned down real to join city, probably turned down us and other clubs. I wouldn't describe him as just floating around. Suarez would have went to real if they bid the 55m they wanted it was Alonso all over again.
Mandzukic isn't Cavani, but his regular level (I think) is still the same as when Giroud played at his best this season. It would improve us a lot.
On the other hand, if Chelsea gets Mandzukic, there can't be that much competition for Costa? City, United, Barcelona, PSG and Bayern don't need him, all of the Real Madrid players probably hate him.
Jovetic sure has harmed his career. Even with all the injuries he's been peripheral.
Nor do I. Not because he isn't good, it's just he doesn't fit the style of play I'd like to see us play
Do Bayern have two Mario Mandzukics?
Sign him up, ditch Giroud if we can get Costa as well

No BECAUSE of all the injuries he's been peripheral.
I wouldn't want Mandzukic anyway. He's just another Gomez, Klose type that will be good but not great once he leaves Bayern. Need someone much, much better.
Klose had his best years outside Bayern actually.

Yeah Klose is not a good example. Brilliant for Germany too.
Don't see him being a major upgrade on Giroud - think it would be a waste of funds that could be far better spent.
What does he excel at that Giroud doesn't already do well? His pace isn't much better and he can't create goals for himself so that only leaves a marginal improvement in finishing.
He's a huge upgrade on Giroud. Fucking hell, how is this even a debate?
He scores much more and scores in the big games too
Not my ideal signing btw but he's better than Giroud
He scores much more because he plays for a far more creative team IMO. He also plays in a weaker league.
Do not want.
1st choice: Costa
2nd Choice : Balo - can't see Milan turning down a huge bid for him, (say 40m euros).

Exactly. I wouldn't expect him to score much more in the Premiership than Giroud currently. Its not like Mandzukic is absolutely tearing the Bundesliga up with goals either. He's never scored 20 league goals.
Too much of a headering target man, I want a striker who can dribble at pace and strike a ball.

He plays for a very creative team but so does Giroud. Giroud too probably has the best creative outlet in the league. Ozil, Ramsey, Wilshere, Cazorla, Walcott, Chamberlain, Rosicky, Podolski etc.
He only played 24 times last season to get 15 league goals. He has 17 in 23 so will probably reach that 20 goal figure which you mention.
Giroud scores .39 goals per game in the league
Mandzukic scores .68 goals per game in the league

40 mill? Are you nuts, Milan would accept a lot less.

He's better than Giroud in every way you can think of. Much quicker too.
He's definitely a big upgrade on Giroud but in addition to getting a striker we need another marquee signing this summer IMO. Always figured we'd just get one striker who fills both criteria but if we lose out on Costa and get Mandzukic/Reus instead then whatever.
Really hoping Chelsea still go after Falcao instead of Costa.
Absolute houseboat this link. We need someone to run the channels not another target man.
he's not a big upgrade on giroud, i'd say a minor upgrade. lewandowski has much better feet than both of them.
selling giroud and getting mandzukic would be a waste of time, money and effort for a minimal upgrade to a very similar player.
Kurtz wrote:Absolute houseboat this link. We need someone to run the channels not another target man.
He is more mobile and runs the channel alot.
If we get a class wide forward i wouldn't mind mandzukic. We need some magic in the front 3.
I really don't see Mandzukic going anywhere this summer. He's playing a major role at one of the biggest clubs in the world and i don't see him giving that up without a fight.
The usual script for strikers who are taken down a peg is that they stay another season to fight for their place. Problem for Mandzukic is that Guardiola often has preferred Muller over him too. Personally, I am not at all certain Lewandowski will stay ahead of Mandzukic in the pecking order.
We dont need second tier strikers. Aim higher than him

He's in a completely different stratosphere to Giroud both in ability and attitude. Definitely wouldn't say no.
i feel like people are overrating mandzukic just because he sits on the bench for bayern. he's really not much of an upgrade on giroud. it's classic big club bias - giroud really shouldn't be anywhere near starting for the french team, either, but he starts for arsenal.
I think you're confusing Mandzukic with Mario Gomez
no i'm not. gomez is actually worse than giroud.
Mandzukic doesn't sit on the bench
Mandzukic has started for the best team in Europe for two years. Work rate and linkup play is top notch and he knows where the goal is. He's quick, can dribble and is useful when he drifts wide. His off-the-ball movement is excellent. Giroud isn't half as good on one of his good days. Get real, people. Manzukic's not the ideal signing but he would improve us to no end.

But my point is, Bayern are far more creative and he also plays in a weaker league.
I personally think Mandzukic is another donkey. He runs around a lot and is good at pressing, but I think even Giroud's touch and link up play in and around the box is better. He won't last another season at Bayern IMO. I absolutely have no doubts about that.
