Completely agree with y. I think the constant reference to our performance in the last 9 years is a little unfair to say the least, it's a different side to the past, both in terms of quality of personnel, the style of play and nature of the performances. I think it's unfair to equate a side, even the recent 2011 squad the lost the Carling Cup final with the likes of Denilson, Clichy, Djourou, Squillaci, Almunia and Arshavin still hanging about, with the players we have now.

Wind-ups aside, current pessimism hasn't been based on the broader context of the past nine years, just the squad being short this season.

The nine years thing is just that bigger historical backdrop. Depending on the kind of person you are, because of our long unsuccessful run it's easier to imagine us stuffing this chance at the FA Cup up somehow. I find it very easy.

I had Hull's strikeforce down as being probably the biggest threat to us on our path to FA Cup glory so that is a massive relief. We really, really have got utterly no excuse now.

Even with Long and Jelavic, who I do like both individually and as a partnership, getting worried over Hull is overreacting. I get it comes from nerves related to what has happened with Arsenal teams of the past few years, but it's still Wigan and likely Hull we've got to get past. Wigan and Hull.

Also, if the FA Cup didn't matter the Double wouldn't matter. Here's what doesn't matter: the League Cup. Winning that and the league is a double you don't particularly care about.

IMO, the main thing Sneezey has over Flappy is that he makes fewer clear cut mistakes. They are both really good goalkeepers, but the main thing Sneezey has improved is that he makes very few clear cut mistakes these days. With Flappy you just know there is one right around the corner; the Liverpool game is a case in point - he has a terrific performance, then he goes flapping at the end and almost gifts them a draw. In the past, Flappy has also been unfortunate that an unreasonable amount of his fuck ups has led to us conceding.

Want to see Fabianski in goal....He has been steady throughout the FA run....As for Sneezey, his sending off against Bayern tells me he has not yet overcome making serious errors in the big moment....As it's been said, Fabs has earned it....No sentiment here....

Sneezey's sending off wasn't an error for me. He HAS to come for that ball every time, and he does. There will be the occasional Bayern moment, but the alternative is having an Almunia who never ventures off his line. Put another way - how many times has he come out this season alone to prevent a player a free path to goal?

Doesn't matter....Sent off early in the game, sealing our fate....Fabianski has done a very good job as the FA GK....So we'll see what happens....

I've parted ways with how the majority of you view this team a few months ago.
You want to look at everything in the context of season's past and wait for what you feel will be inevitable capitulation and disaster, fair enough.
I see something different this season, not massively so, but enough to feel we're not doomed to complete failure.
And we have played some great cup ties so I don't see why I should ignore that because we lost to Stoke.

Yva, its human psychology. If you are hurt too many times, you tend to go into a shell and prepare for the worst, not willing to hope too much.

I am sure the breaking point was the 2011 Carling Cup Final defeat. It was such an incredible defeat.

Hope we dont get this far only to embarass ourselves as we did against Birmingham a few years back, the players need to be well up for this from the off and exert our superiority over them.

Wigan are decent and should not be underastimated, we need to kill them off early. WEM-BER-LEE

Lets go and fucking win this trophy. And I beleive we will.

This season was all about winning a trophy, whether it was the league or FA Cup. It the fundamental difference between us moving forward as a club or standing still. For anyone who will not get excited about a trophy think of every single buisiness end fuck up of the last 9 years and you will apperciate an FA Cup victory.

I also think due to what happened yesterday it will work in our favour in other competitions, in particular tomorow night.

Its like meeting a 9 out of 10 in a club and pulling her but due to logistics reasons you cant 'seal the deal'. But she txs you and you arrange a date which you know you will more or less bang her. Will you be as nervous when you go on a 1st date next time with a 7/10 when you know you have a 9 waiting for you....
