Said yesterday that this thread needed one of those traiditional rousing Alfonso speeches and I login this morning to see he hasn't disappointed.
We just desparately need this. This group of players needs to win a trophy together to prove they can do it. It could then be a stepping stone to winning more and you have to start somewhere. For those saying they wouldn't be dancing in the streets, for me it would absolutely make my year. We'd have some joy to look back on in the way we look back on our title winning seasons.
Instead of spending the summer feeling depressed and pissed off that we fucked everything up again and finished 4th we'll have the memory of a first trophy in the Emirates era and a first for this team. At last we would have some success to build on and that's what it's all about. We spent a load of money on a player for the first time and a trophy was delivered. If we fail to win this thing from here then it simply confirms we're still losers and this bunch of players never will win anything.
To use Alfonso's analogy, maybe you start off building your confidence and abilities with 7s and 8s before you feel ready to move up 9s and 10s. If you constantly fail with 7s when and how do you make that progression?

Also, Fabianski is gone in the summer, his Arsenal career is over. Chesney on the other hand is a our #1 and is likely to remain our #1 for the foreseeable future. I'd like him to get that vital experience of winning a major trophy. An experience that could serve us well in the future.
This is where I stand. In semi finals and finals you play your strongest 11. Fabianski has done well to get to this point and will deserve his medal if we do end up winning it. But to give ourselves the best chance of doing so, we play our first choice team. And as Tactics says, Fabianksi is off in the summer and Szceszny looks like being our number 1 for the next decade, we need him experiencing these big games.
