We're talking wages, Rex. RvP is on 200k/week at Manu.

...and I am pretty sure Gazidiz said that there was an offer on the table for him from Man City where he would have earned substantially more.

Have no idea, not that it matters.

van persie said himself that he accepted lower wages to go to united. he's a football snob and doesn't consider city a big club. he also no longer considers serie a to be a top league, which is also true.

this is one of those would you rather eat poop or drink piss questions. i'd prefer the consequences of doing neither

…but if you REALLY had to choose you’d go for the piss right? Right?? :hmm:
For me this is more like “would you rather get stabbed with a fork in your right eye or your left”?

But seriously, I’ve been giving this some thought. Like many of you have said, I used to love RVP but I lost all respect for him with the whole Man U transfer business. As far as I’m concerned, he owed us far more than we owed him and he should have shown more loyalty. At the very least, he should not have entertained going to Man U. Now, as much as I believe we would benefit greatly from having a striker of his undoubted quality in the team (even allowing for the risk that he turns back into a sicknote), we should never consider buying him back. I’m usually all for being pragmatic, but I really do think it would send entirely the wrong message to supporters, other players and the football world at large.

And besides, we’re totally signing Cavani in the summer so we don’t need him :egg:

We'll that is being pragmatic Daz, it would be bad for the club image to have him back.
I'm probably in the minority in that I never liked him much anyway because he always struck me as an arrogant moody prick, and as he was always injured he never had the chance to impress me.
I like everyone was amazed he managed to stay fit for that whole year that he was any good, so much for him......

I would've hypothetically taken him in January this season for sure, given the slim pickings on offer. The opportunity of a league title outweighs personal detestation.

By the time it gets around to summer I think there will be alternative options under discussion (however feasible they may prove to be). It'll be hard to muster any enthusiasm for re-signing him if we're not desperate.

So you'd be prepared to subjjagate your personal detestation say and "temporarily" suspend your views on civil and human rights, if the country was in dire straits, so that a strong man could get it back on its feet and the trains running on time etc.....

As for myself, my philosophical beliefs aren't something that I can pack away when they're inconvienient.

Fixed that for you. You know when they say "the end justifies the means" that implies the specific end in question is actually relevant. You can't just swap out "Arsenal league title" for "perpetuation of fascist regime" ...

It was widely reported in the summer he signed that United offered £230k a week and City £200k.

Err "they" didn't say it- Machiavelli did.
And how else would you describe one man in total power for nearly 18 years but the perpetuation of a fascist regime.

Look I appreciate the poetic delivery, but wouldn't it just be quicker to type WENGER=HITLER QED in every thread?

Godwin's law.

we can lock this thread now.

I'd like there to be a Rex' law. 🙁

Keep working at it Rex. It's good to have goals. I want to have a park named after me.

I'm with Biggus on this, don't want him back. You have to some kind of fucking principles, guy basically put us down before leaving. He's moved on and so have we, spend big for someone and plan for the future.

Don't want him back , I want us to win the league and then shut the door in his face if he ever hints at wanting to return.

only difference between us and van persie is that van persie is famous. we've all said exactly the same things about arsenal, because they were (are?) true. i could prob post using only quotes from his press release, and no one would notice (as long as i avoided talking about little boys inside me).

thank god none of us are famous, otherwise i suppose there'd be no way back for us, either? biggus, you say way worse about wenger 20x every day.

i realise i'm not changing anyone's mind. just sharing my opinion.
