Alexis plays up front for Chile no? I think he would fit into our system perfectly.

Sanchez would fit regardless of whether he played up front, on the right or on the left. Top class player, but doubt Barca would let him go. Only chance would be if Sanchez wants out.

As for Schneiderlin, is he really good enough? He seems like a tidy and interesting player, but not fully convinced yet.

Sanchez was left out of the copa del ray final and supposedly upset with the manager, if we make a 30m bid they will flinch.

if we were to buy one player, i'd prefer Sanchez to the right of Giroud. still don't feel we'd have enough goals in the frontline. Ozil, Cazorla, Ox don't score enough. So you're dependent on Giroud and the oft-injured Walcott/Podolski

Number 1 goalscorer, number three goal creator Giroud. The only attacker who comes close is Ramsey who was injured half a season and likely would've eclipsed him if healthy. Nobody else is close. Replace those guys first.

We have scored 62 goals in total though, which is around 30 less than Liverpool and Man City. Even if you factor in that Walcott, who was our top scorer last season, has missed 3/4 of the season, and Podolski, who was our second top scorer last season, only recently got meaningful game time, it doesn't give the full picture IMO. With the creativity we have in midfield, we should STILL have scored quite a bit more I reckon. For me, that is mainly down to Giroud's limitations. I don't believe in selling him, but it is clear as day that a better, more versatile striker will go a long way in closing that gap of 30 goals.

I'd still look to replace Giroud even if he scored 30 goals for us this season. I don't care about his goals, even Darren Bent could score 20 goals a season in this team.

You'll see what a pacy dynamic forward would do to our attack if we manage to get one this summer. Difference will be like night and day IMO.

Subtract Giroud's goals and assists and then add your versatile striker's contributions. I'm not blown away by his overall 20 goals and 8 assists in 44 games, but it is significant relative to the others. The Podolski/Walcott problem is not a one season wonder and Ozil has never scored, even when playing in front of Modric/Alonso/Di Maria

Giroud has 14 league goals, and he struggles to score against better sides. He may very well get 1 or 2 more, but we really need a player who gets to 20+ goals, scores against top opposition, and can be counted on to score away from home. On top of that, we need a player who can create for himself, and who can score in different ways. Giroud only really scores from crosses he can finish with one touch. His goal against West Ham was so unusual for him, not only because it was the only world class thing he has done in 2 years, but because he doesn't really score that type of goal.

Rex, I don't deny that we can get a better forward. All I'm saying is anyone who thinks that solving our attack is as simple as replacing Giroud will be in for a painful surprise. We lack goals - because we lack the movement, speed and goal scoring ability other teams have

So where's the paradox in thinking that we'll have better movement, speed and goal scoring ability if we go out and get a forward who moves well off the ball, has pace and knows how to finish?

Player impact isn't just about numbers. A top striker would improve the team in many ways. It's too simplistic to say that it's just a question of 10-12 goals at most.

Yeah. A good all action striker would make defenses hesitate in pushing up as much as they do now against us, thus giving our diminutive CMs more room in the area where they like to operate - behind the opposition midfield.

Claude, I have also been very vocal about us needing another player with similar traits as Walcott. I think we are too reliant on him, and I don't think that is wise with a player who has fitness issues. AOC may very well be that player next season, but Wenger seems so adamant that he too is a central player.

Klaus, I'm looking at the guys we have and I just don't see goals in them. They don't have a hunger for goal. United have two guys who can score regularly (if they feel like it), and same with Pool. We don't even have one. Movement will help, but we need more guys with that Ramsey instinct to get forward and get onto the ball. The other guys just don't have it. That's why we sucked for the last 3 months
