How about Max Aarons Ricky? Not sure if I've seen him mentioned here yet.

Max Aarons is the Ryan Fraser of fullback. He’s too short, and his ceiling is just as low.

I agree. Aarons lacks that killer speed to make up for being so small, and he doesn't have outstanding technical ability, even judged by the standards of a fullback.

He is a surpisingly decent defender amd a clever little footballer. I quite like him, but he's not close to good enough for Arsenal currently.

I guess Partey is the obvious first move, but after that will be scratching around for money and will have a hard time convincing players to join us.

Centreback we need to find a good partner for Saliba. It’ll probably end up being Mari but I’d like us to go for Gabriel.

We are pretty much devoid of creativity. I’d love us to get Foden but can’t see it. Quite stuck here. Coutinho would bring what we need but is too much of a risk.

Perhaps a devil on the left would do. Everton Soares, allowing Saka to operate as part of a midfield three.

Anything else will have to be sorted in future windows

Nice team. Some alternatives.
I would build from midfield out. Get Partey. And then match him with a robust B2B. Serdar of Schalke is great in the tackle but can also perform as a playmaker. He’s 23, already on the German team. He’s injured for 3 months now with knee ligament damage but he could be a smart pickup in midfield to give us someone who is skillful and manly.

In central defense, if West Ham drop, rescue Issa Diop from his nightmare.

Technically we're a couple of levels below the other clubs. When you watch liverpool vs city you can see they're streets ahead. If we want to compete with them any time soon we're gonna need more technical players.

For mind as we currently look on the pitch and re our injuries, I don't think we'll make Europa next season let alone top4/CL unless those above us fall over themselves. As such I think the likes of Partey, Upamecano & Jovic are as big a pipe dream as the likes of Neymar, Messi or Mbappe.

My wish list isn't about the individual quality, but more so that we have a functional squad where we don't need to come up with creative compromises in order to get some semblance of a team on the pitch.

I doubt we're in any position to sign anyone already at a CL club, and well be looking to try to pick up bargains from clubs around the relegation zones and those outside UEFA comps. I still think there are some good players we can build upon if we get our shit sorted to begin with.

I'd like us to at minimum to offload Elneny, Mkhi, Soares, Luiz, Sokratis, Lacazette, Xhaka. Fear Torriera, Aubamayeng will be likely outbounds too. I wouldn't expect Mustafi, Kolasinac, or Özil to add into that. I would loan out Mavropanos, Chambers, Maitland-Niles, possibly Willock too. Barring Chambers none of the others would go at appropriate value.

So that's 1 fullback, 2 centre backs, 3 midfielders, 3 forwards. Crazy.
I'd embolden youth players such as Saliba, Nelson, Guendouzi, Nketiah, and Martinelli.
That may look some like this:

Based on that we would need a quality starting forward, central defender and central midfielder. A whole new spine. A dependable right back.
I can see why we may end up holding on to Lacazette, Luiz, Soares.

So gutting. Arteta might be asked to make do like Lampard was(Pulisic,Girioud aside). I can't believe he was able to help Chelsea make Champions league with little inbounds, and can splash away this season.

Cantwell looks average to me, but always pop up at the right places to score.

I'd like to see us make a real statement in the transfer window in terms of signing top4 quality players - regardless of price and regardless of even if we finish outside UEFA places. I'd rather go 'all in' than looking to rebuild by a piecemeal strategy.

Based upon the precedent set by UEFA punishments, IMO the benefits re top4/CL revenues is worth both a fine and transfer ban, (noting MC are only looking at a CL ban because they fudged their response to their initial punishment which involved a suspended fine). Playing 'Mr Nice Guy' when we had the resources has got us no where & I'm sick and tired of us spurning opportunities to improve.

IMO the biggest 'risk' is that we blink first and end up with compromises who are not 'fit for purpose'. IMO the whole point would be to rebuild in 1 season with top4 quality - particularly if we do not have UEFA competition and can prioritize the PL to regain top4. The resulting squad should be capable of challenging for the title/UEFA silverware within 2-3 seasons, including and initial season to adapt/transition.

I think with mari and saliba we've solved on of our biggest problems in having CBs who treat the ball like a bomb and panic under pressure. Emery thought they'd settle and learn how to play it around but they just weren't able to. even Luiz now he hasn't got the legs isn't happy being pressed.

The next biggest problem is progressing the ball forward in midfield. Torreira and Douzi seem pretty clear they want to leave.

AMN and xhaka have good reason to leave. AMN is talented but pretty shit and needs a move to prove it to himself.

If 3 of then leave and we bring in partet and m.Savic and stick saka at AMC we've suddenly got a midfield nobody is going to want to play against.

Watching Saka against Sheffield made me realise that I really want him in midfield. He could probably play anywhere on the pitch if you asked him to; he plays with such maturity and gusto, but I think that's where he'll do the most good. You want his attacking instincts there. Just look at how he and Eddie went from zero to hundred in an instant when they smelled blood right before the second goal. That's what I want to see. None of the usual slow-sideways-passing, do-not-run-ahead-of-the-ball crap.
