Central defender has to be Koulibaly. He’s 27, so can still give us 4-6 decent years. Once you clear the salaries of Ramsey and Welbeck, you should throw everything at him. On a 5 year contract, he should hit us for _25m a year EBIT.

I suspect the De Ligt train’s gone. De Jong as well. People knew about them last summer. That was the time to strike. Now there is too much noise. It reminds me of the Mbappe situation. A healthy Martial-sized bid the summer before might have done it.

So sad, that nowdays if there is an absolutely "elite" level talent up for grabs, Arsenal is nowhere near to be seen.

Have anybody seen the Carrick story? Pretty insane we canceled a deal on him purely due to 1 game by Cesc

That story infuriated me. Carrick is the real deal. He should've been playing with Fabregas all those years. Would've been a strong midfield.

That's West Ham Carrick - a promising youngster playing in the first division at the time. He would have been coming into the invincible squad - nothing wrong with the decision to go with cesc instead and I bet 99% of managers would make that choice every time.

He's definitely one that go away in hindsight, but we had Vieira, Gilberto, Edu, Flamini and a young Cesc. There's time's when you can certainly make a case for neglect but that was a very strong midfield on paper with the right mix of experience and good succession planning.

I wasn't bothered by not getting Carrick (or even Modric) as i rated Cesc much higher, at the time.
Being wise after the event, i believe not finding an adequate Gilberto replacement was the main problem.
Wenger knew and bought Diaby but we now know the broken leg was career ending.

Flamini was only good in the last year of his contract and we now know that form was simply a purple patch while fending off Diarra.
After that it is amazing we maintained top 4 as we played the non-tackling Denilson in midfield.

Denilson is pound for pound, the worst midfielder I've seen play for Arsenal. And I've seen people like Ian Selley and David Hillier turn out for us.
