I thought it was a massive mistake at the time and I still do. He's on a completely different level to Ox and that's with him not even developing near his optimum curve

I reckon he'll work his way into Bayern's first XI after being on the fringes initially. He's made a couple of poor career choices but he's always overcome them.

Transfer strategy has been so muddled, Jones. A high beta prospect like this should’ve either been kept on or sold with a buy back clause. Yet we have all these no-hopers like Perez and Campbell going out on loan instead of just collecting out cash and being done with them.

On Iwobi though, I think something useful could yet emerge. I want better conditioning, and more goal threat, but there is promise.

I agree that our transfer strategy can't really be called that, we just go out on the market and get whatever we stumble upon. The two guys you've mentioned aren't the most talented in the world but they're actually some of the better signings we've seen in recent years they've just been horribly under- and misused

I know both Iwobi and Welbeck have had a decent game yesterday but there's no way they deserved so many chances while the other two got immediately shipped out despite better performances than then, and that's with them never getting any meaningful minutes to find form. That's probably the most disappointing thing about Wenger these days, he's clearly playing favourites and at least to me it seems like he's preferring English/local guys to players from abroad, something that he never used to care about strangely enough.

He felt betrayed by foreign kids like Fabregas, Van Persie, Nasri. He saw English/Welsh players like Lampard, Terry, Gerrard, Scholes, Giggs basically stick with one club for their career, and tried to emulate it. Problem was, we didn't get Scholes-level players, we got Jenas-level or worse (with the exception of Ramsey, who we'll prob lose b/c he's outgrown Wenger).

Thing is, the talent pipeline has been so bare that I can't think of many that we could've done with in our squads. Seb Larsson? Gnabry. Maybe Ozyakup. Am I forgetting anyone?

Szczesny, to my mind. Under a better goalkeeping coach, could have gone on to become a mainstay for Arsenal in goal.

A very strange player is Iwobi. He can look pretty damn good in the middle third, but as soon as he approaches the beginning of the final third (literally that line), he makes horrendous choices.

Vela? Huge, huge talent. Perhaps not the required mentality though.

You guys are fooling yourself if you don't think Wenger wanted to keep Gnabry or give him chances. He threw him into Premier League as an 17 year old without thinking twice about it.

The simple fact is that he had several difficult injuries, struggled to get back, and then refused to extend his contract. These things happen. It's no one's fault.

Also the botched up loan stint at Pulis' WBA was really unfortunate. It was a terrible decision to let him go there.

Plus those sneaky bastards at Bayern were involved. We probably had no chance at that point.

Not just RMC Sport but Mohamed Bouhafsi who's virtually infallible for French transfer news. Hope Wenger can lure him into coming before fucking off into the sunset leaving the team in Sarri's hands to win back to back league titles

I wonder if he's just tired of the manager and the reduced opportunities, or if he has had a call from another team - maybe someone like Bayern Munich - where there would be a chance to be a starter at a contender. If he's without a clear exit strategy, then we should activate our 'at risk/surplus' transfer strategy forthwith
