Bayern ponied up up a Bundesliga record fee of nearly 34m for Martinez. He's not going anywhere and even if he was for sale we wouldn't pay up that much.

True, Bayern put a lot of effort into signing him and if they can't fit him as a CM he can play CB for them.

Here's a less than exciting name: Benteke. Was watching that annihilation of Norwich yesterday. Over-the-head kick with the defender molesting him, and then a strong header won after he mounted the defender like a bull in heat. He's not Cavani/Falcao, etc., but he's proven Premiership quality.

He'd be a massive upgrade on what we have so if he's the best we can get I'd be more than happy to take him. 20m should be enough which leaves money for a top quality DM.

He is much more mobile and faster than Giroud too.

I like Strootman but we missed out on him.

Would take him if we can't get anyone better obviously but we should have bought him in January. Wonder if all those people turning up their noses at him now regret it.

Was only a matter of time until he started scoring again. He's not the guy you want to lead our line for the next few years though.

Agreed. Arsenal are already at Benteke level, we're trying to get to the next level which requires RVP, Cavani, Aguero, Ibra, Suarez, Falcao, Rooney. Sadly I don't think any of those are available at any price. Is Remy really that much better than 17 goals a year Giroud? Since upgrading CF is so hard I'd rather play Walcott at striker and upgrade Cazorla and the newly emptied RW. Great wingers are much more plentiful or actually available.

Both Remy and Benteke are better players than Giroud. They aren't outstanding footballers though and that's what we need.

It's debatable whether Benteke is any better than Giroud, but he offers different and additional qualities (pace) that may better help our team dynamic.

But he's more of a last minute summer buy than #1 target.

benteke and remy are wiltord level - good enough to play an important role for us (and hopefully score some goals), but not first team players.

i'd def take them over giroud though - it's just fundamental that our attacking players have a good shot on them. goes without saying, really.

Is Reus at all available this summer?

They have Lewandowski off and Gundogan has one year on his deal. Think they'd rather keep him and let him go in 2015 and sacrifice the 5-10 extra million they would have pocketed. Reus is probably worth 35-40 million and his release clause is 30m so makes sense to keep him till 2015 unless of course...

Bayern decide to let go of Robben who has a contract till 2015 on a free. Makes sense not to go too overboard on a player who albeit extremely talented will be 31 then, highly injury prone and on the verge of losing his best asset i.e. pace. Use some of that 150m annual kitty they have on Reus.
