That is my worry with Martinez now too. I like him as a striker; he shoots well with both feet, he is good in the air, he has great instincts for where the ball will fall, he is strong, and fast for a player of his size. This guy is the opposite to Giroud in the sense that he doesn't look to link up with team mates much at all. He gets it close to goal - he will try to finish.
Two summers ago, or even last summer, was the time to get him IMO. He still needs work, and the difference in quality between the Portuguese league and the PL is quite big. He will be 29 in October. I think he'd roughly be on par his first season with what Giroud has produced this season. For a player who is to turn 30 after his first season here, when he is supposed to kick on, it is a big risk.
