If I remember correctly, we have lost the midfield battle several times last two seasons when playing Southampton. Schneiderlin is good on the ball, a reliable passer both in his short and long game, and he has power and strength.
I think a lot of you guys undervalue the physical traits which actually work really, really well in the PL. I don't want another midget in midfield! You have a midfield with one of Coquelin and Schneiderlin along with Ramsey, then I'd back that midfield to win the central battle almost every time. When playing the top teams, you play both of Coquelin and Schneiderlin along with Ramsey. I'd be more than confident those guys would come out on top in almost every single game. Their main job should be to dominate midfield, protect the defense, and give the ball to Alexis, Özil and Reus. 🙂
