Although his distribution is better than Mertesacker's, that lack of pace will make us have to sit deep against even shittier teams with Agbonlahor type of strikers when we already have, just about, the slowest CMs in the top flight who will never be able to close down runners in a stretched midfield.
I know he can play LB but he stuck out like a sore thumb in that position for Germany, as their weakest link so it is a "No Thank You" for me.

He'd be a good signing as long as we don't play him at LB or with mert. If koscielny gets injured, chambers would be his back up and the Germans can compete for the other spot.

Yeah, not sure I get the reasoning Seg.

We don't have to play our slowest trio of players together in that central defensive area unless we hit a real injury crisis.

And we don't have to play the high line so much now we've got an evidently dangerous counterattacking lineup.

The players we're getting linked with this window are unreal. Rumour-mongers seem set on us spending £30-50m more than we already have.

No way Howedes is slow anyway. He may look a little lumbering, but you can't play left back at the very highest level and get away with it if you're really slow. Imagine Mertesacker playing full back for instance.

Injuries to Kos and Debuchy and we would see such a defensive trio. Hardly an injury crisis but rather par for the course.

Don't think Wenger fancies setting up for a purely counter attacking team even if we do have the players for it.

Flamini isn't slow, certainly not when he was 23/24 when he actually played full back.

i think i read somewhere that lavezzi was renewing his deal. who else could they flog at a decent price. pastore? moura?

Moura. No one wants Pastore with the kind of salary he's on.

I reckon the salary is the biggest stumbling block with Cavani too. He'd be the top earner in Premier League, and there's only one club that can handle those kind of wages at the moment.

Think we can offer what he wants as we are the only top club in PL who can offer the salary + a guaranteed starting spot. Everyone else has marquee strikers already.

United could do it tomorrow if they wanted to. It would be a bit unnecessary in their case but he's better than what they have, and they would be able to meet his sky high wage demands.

City could do it too, but they would need to sell a couple of players first.
