The players couldn't care less if Wenger does a conference or not. I doubt half them even noticed.

We have had money to sign legit players - look at our failed bids for Mata, Alonso, etc. Those were all respectable sums that we ended up losing out on by haggling over a few million more.

I agree. Missing Alonso in particular was galling. And signing mediocre/useless players on low fees and high wages screwed us for years. I still think Ozil/Suarez suggests that he's looking to spend now, and he'll be under even more pressure next summer honestly.

The fact is Inner that Wenger is obscessed with getting a bargain player polishing him up and selling him on for a profit, it's about the only thing he's good at.
Whenever he's had to pay a higher price for one it's either been a disasterous waste of money like Reyes/Jeffers or has been average like say Wiltord/Arshavin.
I understand these things happen in football it's no big deal, but I doubt Ozil will be a success becsuse Wenger will simply not spend the money to acquire players that will get the best out of him, and will fuck about wasting time trying to find cheap alternatives, and time is one thing I hope he doesn't have.

I just don't doubt Wenger's will to win like that. I think he's stubborn and has glaring weaknesses but he obviously wants what is best for the club and has been seriously hurt by the poor run this season. He made two £40m bids last summer on two of the 15-20 best players in the world and got one of them to come here from Real Madrid! If he screws around this summer I'm done with him but I just don't see that happening personally.

It's like reaching a Cup final and losing.....
What's best for this club now is to win a trophy not fuck about trying to perfect his little system while saving money.
If Wenger wanted what was best for the club he would have resigned after the 8-2 and I can never forgive that.

Everybody knew we needed a striker. If he actually wanted to buy one why wait till late July to test his clause. Try early so you if you fail you can get the others. The other thing is once the bid failed why not try and go back for Higuain ASAP. If the clause isn't valid than bidding 40m is a joke when strikers of a similar level are going for 15-20m so Liverpool have the right to ask for that sort of money. It's his negligence in such a key area that could cost us CL and lots of money. It's his fault. He cheap-skated on the two areas needed strengthening with freebies. He started the season with Giroud, Bendtner and Sanogo FFS.

I mean no one loves a hulking big old fashioned centre forward more than me, but it's all wrong for this system, it's almost as if Wenger knows that a big man will get you goals in the PL so he feels obliged to throw one in amongst the midgets.

Wenger lost my support a long time ago now, everything he does these days is the footballing equivalent of nails down a blackboard.

So many things he has done that make me shake my head and cringe, however for the life of me I cannot fathom why if he decides that the way the team should play is with one striker up front, why wouldn't you make that striker world class? No disrespect to Giroud, I actually like the guy, but what we are asking of him isn't in his skill locker.

I respect AW for what he has done to and for the club, but somebody in charge really needs to realise that he is dragging the team down, unfortunately Kroenke will just keep offering new contracts so maybe it is up to AW to fall on his sword and not sign a new contract.

All the wailing from non-contributing fans has very little effect. If the match-going fans turned, I feel more notice would be taken but, understandably, they don't want to destroy the team's efforts on the pitch.

You are right Bold Tone, to be honest it is all a complete shambles these days, but hey we are making tons of money so all is good with the owners.

I admit I had enough of it all two seasons ago when I didn't renew my season ticket for the first time in 26 years, but my heart wasn't in it any more. I can see more fans going the same way, thing is our waiting list is still healthy so it will mean little to the powers that be.

says who? it's not what gazidis has been saying, nor is it what our financial statements have said. add the value of the club to a potential buyer and there is unbelievable spending power that has gone unused for a decade.

Been thinking about creating a "the new deadwood" thread but I don't think any of our players are actually deadwood at the moment. Maybe Bendtner but he still contributed goals this season and his contact's basically done. Giroud is a good backup. Caz is probably the best reserve #10 in the world. Podolski is annoying but not totally useless.

As I said before- If he had any dignity and if he had the interests of the club at heart he would have resigned after the 8-2.
But he only cares about his nutty experiments and his 7m per annum, that's why he's hanging on like grim death
What other top club would he be allowed that sort of indulgence with no demand for trophies?

It defies belief that he hasn't been punted. Some of the efforts of the past few years are akin to an electrician blowing the odd house up as a result of gross negligence with no repercussions at all. It's totally ridiculous.

It's not implausible they think that (past players have said similar, and lots of us do obviously) but there really needs to be a sourced quote or two if you're going to put stuff like that in an article.
