No point debating it, because none of us know for sure. As I said, MY suspicion is that the contract has been done. It's happened before with Wenger, we announced the deal and it emerged later that it had all been signed and sealed ages before.

Of course you are right, Tim. I fail to see how anyone could possibly think he wouldn't sign a new contract either.

It is all very wrong though. I think Wenger was the best possible manager for us guiding us through the stadium enterprise. All in all I think he has done better than expected in the past 6 years too. Yes, I believe there are plenty of managers who could have won us a cup or two during those years, but for the club it was much more important to remain in the top 4 EVERY season. Rightly so too IMO. I have serious doubts whether Wenger has been right for us the last 2 years though, and I think he is all wrong for the club going forward.

If we have money he's wrong for us. If we don't he's a great name/brand to keep around. Arsenal have been very, very unfortunate not to win a trophy these 9 years.

I'll respect Wenger a whole lot more if he does the honorable thing because it would mean he really has the best interest of the club at heart. He's finished as a top level manager, we need better, end of story.

Wenger needs to stay for me. We're going in the right direction and are closer than we've been in the last 9 years to having a squad that's going to win us the league, that's not something that should be taken for granted. Ideally, he'd sign a one year rolling contract.

The honourable thing is to get behind the manager who has given the club so much, not to have knee jerk reactions every bloody time we have a bad result.

Otf, a few questions!

Do you really believe that Wenger will ever assemble a squad without at least one glaring hole in it? (Last two seasons it has been at CF, before that in midfield, and before that at goalkeeper and in defense)

Do you feel that Wenger's match day tactics are strong enough to win us a major cup, or consistently perform on par against other top clubs?

Jazz, there are a lot of posters on here, myself included, who have wanted Wenger to quit for a few years now. I'd hardly call that knee jerk.

Ferguson's squad had a gaping midfield hole in it for years and he still racked up the trophies. Once the first comes it'll be easier. So many of our players have no arrogance about them.

I really don't agree with this, Ludo. Yes, Man U's midfield has been their weakest point for quite a few years, but 'gaping hole' is way OTT the way I see it. They also had a world class defense and attack, which sort of helps.

In fairness, the club has actually changed the approach since then; we don't rely on youth players any more.

Man Utd have always had 3-4 reliable goalscorers and a team/style that was built around getting the ball to them as often as possible to do the busienss. Not that sophisticated, but it works - as we are seeing with Liverpool and Man City this season.

Actually that's a good point.

Thank you. Not that I can remember anyone from the club saying so, but moving away from Project Youth is admittance in itself.

IMO, the idea that we supply the first team squad with a kid or two internally every year, and then go into the market for top class quality seems a good approach. We need to do it though; Özil MUST only be the first player. Unfortunately, I don't trust Wenger on this.
